PARMA RIVAS Shortstop Second Base James entrusted the third sack to him in the Hrst several games and he has handled it in a Very creditable fashion. Another freshman who showed up well from the beginning of the season was Micel who has been holding down the right Held post like a veteran. These three freshmen besides being good at their positions are also timely hitters, delivering when hits mean runs. Jansing, veteran of three seasons seemed destined to turn in the most brilliant work of his entire collegiate career. Jansing, by virtue of his superb fielding and slug- ging, has cut himself a permanent niche in the St. Ed's athletic hall of fame. jansing has been ably assisted in patrolling the outer gardens by Loran. Dur- ing his four years at the University Loran has become a permanent fixture on Saint ball teams and his loss will be sorely felt by Coach James next year. W. JAMES JANSING LORAN First Base Outfield Out-field For the 1930 baseball season Julius Curley James was chosen to coach the Varsity baseball aggregation. With his four years of Varsity experience Coach James was well qualified to replace Sheffield. During his four years of partici- pation in college athletics Curley James always proved himself an important cog in every Saint baseball machine. He was always a Hashy inlielder and his consistency in hitting was hard to beat. It fell to the lot of Coach James to replace such baseball players as Captain Dyer, W. James, Anders, and Scott and to work in his freshmen material to the best possible advantage. It became apparent early in the year that his best bet among the yearlings would be Pat McLaughlin. This tall lanky youngster has everything it takes to make a big league hurler and the work he has turned in for the Hilltoppers so far has been positively brilliant. Among the other newcomers Fitzgibbon seems the most outstanding at this writing. Coach .5 u:?1'H ti2:?l3ig5bEi27'l.' Burger will end his two years of baseball at St. Edwards with the record of being one of the most clever men that ever graced a Saint infield position and with a great batting average. Brotherman will also end his college baseball career this year after alternately playing first and catcher equally well for the Saints during the last several seasons. Bomba should also see plenty of action behind the plate this year from his early season showing. At present the initial sack is being presided over by Braminer and C. Strauss. The care of the keystone bag is in the capable hands of Parma, flashy veteran of two seasons. At this Writing Coach James is greatly handicapped by the lack of games, due to the temporary abolition of baseball from the Texas Conference.
