BURKE DICKMANN Frrzcmnons Center Canter, Forward to play a fighting brand of basketball. The result of each game of the season was always doubtful until the sound of the final whistle as the Saints led at the half in every game with the exception of the first game with the San Marcos Bobcats and the Southwestern game of January 24. Captain Eugene Sullivan proved himself one of the mainstays of the scrappy little james coached quintet. VVith two years of experience behind him Sullivan showed himself one of the most consistent guards in the circuit and was largely responsible for holding down the score in numerous games. The ever brilliant work of Captain-elect Herron, Saint scoring ace, earned him a place on the mythical All-Texas Conference team at one of the forward posts. Dickmann, playing his last year for the Saints, featured every game with a flashy game at Top row: MICEL, A. IQIVLIN, BEACH, Cowixirr, DICKLTANN, T. BURKE, JAMES CCOACHD. Bottom row: HERRON, FIGAKL FITZGIBBONS, SULLIVAN, MACK1, K. KIVLIN, MUNOZ. Page 96

The herculean problem that confronted Coach james was the replacement of Captain VV. James, O'Brien, and Jansing, forward, guard, and center, respectively, on the 1929 Saint quintet. The last two men mentioned were All Texas Confer- ence selections for their positions and who with Captain james formed the back- bone of the 1929 team. James and O'Brien were lost. by graduation and Jansing was unable to play due to an operation. Everything considered Coach James demonstrated that he was well qualified as a basketball mentor. Although pitted against the best teams the Conference has ever boasted of and each composed of veterans the jamesmen never failed

41 .M CAPT. ELECT HERRON IVIACKI Forward Guard center. Coach James is due much credit for the great development that Macki, Fitzgibbons, and Burke showed under his tutelage. Of these three men, Macki and Fitzgibbons were freshmen, while it was Burke's initial year on the basket- ball squad. Coach James, developed Fitzgibbons into a star goal tosser who led in the number of points scored in each game, and early in the season uncovered great ability in Macki. This husky guard proved the stumbling block for numerous onslaughts on the Saint basket. Burke displayed marked improve- ment, both as a floor man and as a goal shooter, throughout the entire season, and should prove valuable to the Saint quintet of 1931. The work of Micel, Kivlin, Munoz, lNurtzinger, and Beach deserves mention as these men kept the regulars fighting all the time to retain their berths on the Varsity line-up.
