CAP1.1s FANETTE FARR Guard Quarterback Center The following week-end a crippled Varsity eleven was again the Victim of greater reserve strength when the Saint team fell before the touted Baylor Bears to the tune of 19 to 0. The Bears, led by the flashy Jake VVilson, played one of their best games of the season, but were forced to their limit in downing their lighter opponents who held them scoreless during the first period of the game. In speaking of the game Morley Jennings said that Sarafiny had the hardest driving backheld of any team his men played during the entire season. The Baylor mentor referred especially to the line plunging of Bomba and Macki. An inspired Blue and Gold grid machine celebrated Homecoming Day, Oct. 19, in Memorial Stadium, by running wild over the Southwestern University Pirates and plastering a 38 to 6 defeat on their ancient rivals. The Saints cut loose early in the fracas with terrific drive and brilliant all-around play that the Corsairs were never able to stem. For the fourth time in as many years the g X 1 k...... - ..-. BOMBA Co-Cnr-T. ELECT BIMXCKXVELI. BROTHERMAN Fullback Tackle End The season was ushered in with Sarafiny's Saints battling the vaunted Loyola VVolves on the Pack's home field in New Orleans' first night game. Although fighting every minute the Blue and Gold warriors were defeated by the highly effective aerial attack of the VVolves 18 to 0. The New Orleans sport scribes were unanimous in their praises of the well coached Saint eleven and were enthusiastic about the work of Fanette, Frisch, and Hertenberger. Although the Saints again tasted defeat in their fray with the University of Texas they demonstrated a brilliant offensive as well as defensive game. A sweltering Texas sun combined with the great reserve strength of Littlef1eld's squad was more than Hilltoppers could cope with and they lost 13 to 0. The Longhorns garnered but nine first downs after using everything they had in the way of attack and practically every man on the squad. R K Top row: COACH SARAFINY, CANION, KELSEY, BLACKWELI., A. . l Fiuscn JANSING KIVLIN Emi Hab' back Quarterback Saints proved their superiority over the Pirate crew in every department of the game. Jansing and Parma reeled off the most sensational runs for the Saint offense while Allen proved himself a star for the opposition. Southwestern's lone counter came during the third quarter after Saraliny had replaced his entire Varsity with reserves. V I The Daniel Baker Hill Billies upset every dope bucket in the state when they held the fighting Saints to a scoreless tie, Oct. 25, in Brownwood. The St. Ed's gridsters completly outclassed the Brownwood aggregation in number of first downs and gained 220 yards from scrimmage to their opponents' 128 but lacked the necessary punch when it was needed. In holding Sarafiny's scoring Saints to a scoreless tie the Hill' Billy team displayed a great brand of football and were justly lauded by sport writers. As usual the stalwart forward Wall, headed by Hertenberger and Vogt, functioned perfectly. i i 3 JANSING SKIRTS PIRATE END F OR GAIN Page 90
