The highlight of the St. Edward wrestling season was the runner-up trophy the Beavers gained down at the State Tournament in Lincoln. Jim Plebanek put his name into the St. Edward record book for good as he was the first wrestler ever to become a state champion. St. Edward sent 8 wrestlers down the path to the state meet and had 5 wrestlers place. Besides Plebanek’s 1st place were Rich Tenski 6th, Brad Thompson 4th, and Dave Baker 3rd, and Grady Wells 4th. The Beavers ended the season with an undefeated dual record and 7 trophies in their grasp. St. Ed.
