The thrill of earning their way to the State Track meet was only a vision in the minds of the boy tracksters during the '79 track season. Placing only a close third left some tracksters coming up short of missing the state meet. Throughout the season, each individual bettered his own personal record, to help the team as a whole. Coach Meyer said the highlight of the year was when the team came home with second place in the Conference. The track team came close to 1st in points in every track meet. The club can Initiate and go forward with projects the school cannot do or does not have the time to do. The club has had many fund raising projects as well as donations and dues. A large share of the money was used to buy films for the football games. In the past few years the Booster Club has made possible the purchase of a new modern weight machine and a large new scoreboard that has been installed at the athletic field. The clubs last project, a large illuminating sign, is finished and will be erected as soon as the weather permits. This sign will be installed in the downtown area and will advertise the coming school events. During the summer it may be used for public events of interest to St. Edward and the surrounding community. The club works closely with the coaches, school officials, and the people of the St. Edward district and because of this any problems that may arise can be threshed out in less time with better satisfaction for all. The club has been trying to get something going toward the building of track and field facilities. This is something that is definitely needed, but so far no site has been found. The club's aim is to make a boy or girl a well-trained and better athlete by all means available. Money making projects and services for the school keep the group busy throughout the year. Again this year the Council provided the elementary Christmas movies and added gift of candy to each elementary student. The Council is in hopes of adding a new trophy case to the school by the start of the coming year. With good student backing the Council will accomplish this fast. Back row: J. Swett, K. Nordeen, P. You either hear it or you don't. It either moves you, or it leaves you cold. It has never been successfully reproduced by an electronic synthesizer because it is more than just a sound ... it is the soul itself. Neil Diamond The vocal music department had another successful year. Choir and Swing Choir both performed several times during the year. The department put on a fall concert in November, and a Christmas concert in December. In early spring the groups began preparing for District Music Contest in April. The contest site was changed this year to Plainview. Choir and Swing Choir both received excellent ratings. Annelle Mahoney, Carol Werner, and Linda Schmidt all received superior ratings on their solos. The vocal duet of Carol Werner and Linda Schmidt also received a superior rating. Although choir is losing a large group of talented seniors, it is hoped a large number of students will join choir next year. Sing For Fun . -Sing Alone.-Sing With Us . CHOIR . The evening started with the banquet prepared by the Junior mothers. Joe Swett served as this year's Master of Ceremonies. Servers for the banquet were Curt Werner, Scott Stuhlmiller, Ted Buettner, Larry Stoley, Lanette Sorensen, Chris Tenski, Kandi Channer, and Kathy Lloyd. Entertainment for the banquet was the theme song sung by Carol Werner, and Linda Schmidt. Prom dance was held from 8 p.m.-12 p.m. with April Monday providing the music. With the help of Garry Riggs, and Kathryn Cook the evening events ran smoothly. This year's Prom show was The Dark , held at the Albion Drive-In. Even though the Juniors were DEAD tired, from decorating, this year's Prom was well worth it. Everyone, including those tired Juniors seemed to discover that they really did LOVE THE NIGHTLIFE! Poem to the Seniors Another year goes passing by Another Prom is here To some this brings a joyous smile To others, brings a tear For four years you have tread a path From dawn to setting sun But now the path gets steeper And the climb is just begun. They spent Saturday at Worlds of Fun, then went back to the hotel for swimming and other excitement that occurred. Sunday some attended the Kansas City Royals baseball game before everyone went out to Worlds of Fun for the last time. Monday was spent shopping at the Independance Mall in Kansas City. The excitement of the trip was the class toga party. They arrived back in St. Edward at 1:00 a.m. Tuesday. The '79 Seniors had Worlds of fun . (MfM) ill A vaXV3NS OUR TIME IS NOW AND The St. Edward school gymnasium was the scene of the 1979 graduation when an estimated crowd of over 1,000 . watched as 33 S.E.H.S. seniors presented themselves for diplomas. The seniors wore caps and gowns in the class colors of gold and blue. Behind the stage to the audience's left were silhouettes of graduates and Class of 1979 in gold, and to the right was the class motto: Our Time Is Now and Forever . As the senior's name was called the student's mother also went forward to receive a blue tipped mumm from her graduate. The high school band played the processional and recessional with the invocation and benediction by Father Duane Lukes. Music was provided by the high school choir, the Swing Choir and graduating seniors. Presentation of the class was by Supt. Frank Williams with Diplomas presented by School Board member. Max Nordeen.
