gridders state champs once again front I. to r. - Christensen, wells, Johnson, meridith, schack, thompson, prorok, baker, kuntzelman, sorsensen, thoma-zin. middle- thompson, green, Stephens, condreay, dark, carter, keeshen, swett, johnson, lloyd, plebanek. back-coach bailey, kmiecik, rimovsky, Christensen, zabka, williams, jensen, rosane, stevens, nordeen, werner, sindelar, haas, asst, coach meyer. unbelievable! fantastic! wonderful! these are just a few words to describe the '76 state football champs of c-2. this well-balanced team went into the season determined to come out on top and with no doubt did with a 10-0-1 record, the beavers were west division co-champs and chose to play in state playoffs instead of conference playoffs. the beavers rated 1 by the lincoln and grand island papers, now have a 17 game winning streak. Jamie swett, rushing for 1253 yards and averaging 7.7 yards was selected for both all-state and all-conference, all-conference john kmiecik rushing for 889 yards (averaging 5.4 yds.) punted an average of 42.6, one of the best in the state, st. ed. dominated the goldenrod conference with 12-22 positions on all-conference, on their way to the championship, the gridders defeated the walthill bluejays, 34-14, at wayne state, this headed them to columbus for the championship game against the alma cardinals, st. ed also beat the cards by a wide margin, 24-6. the seniors leave s.e.h.s. after compiling a 36-1-3 record.
