For I'll never pass this way again. I will see this day but once. It there's any kindness I can show, let me show it now. For I'll never see this day again. Tomorrow may be too late my friend To do all the good that you planned. So reach out to those who need you And lend them a helping hand. I will know this world but once. If there's any love that I can give, let me give it now. Oh Lord, please show me how. For I'll never know this world, I'll never see this day. I'll never pass this way again. —Author Unknown What mark will I leave behind? How will anyone ever know I've been here? I will. 15 The senior class was busy during their final high school year. Two money-making projects were undertaken to help defray expenses for the annual senior sneak trip. On November 1, the class held the Hunter's Breakfast. Starting at 5:00 a.m., the class members, with help from several mothers, Mr. and Mrs. Dreesen, and Mrs. Harriet Berlin, served breakfast and dinner. Later in the year, the drama students presented the play Seventeenth Summer which was sponsored by the seniors. Proceeds from the activities were used to pay for tickets to The Doobie Brothers concert on April 7, which climaxed Senior Sneak Day. The day was spent at Westroads, where the class shopped or attended the matinee at the Cinema Six Theatre. The seniors ate at the Bonanza Steak House, then attended the concert, accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. Dreesen and Mr. and Mrs. Ronnie VanMeter. Several other activities occupied the class's time as they ordered Senior keys, graduation announcements, caps and gowns, and Senior pictures. The final event undertaken as high school students was graduation exercises which took place on May 16. VARSITY SEASON RECORD ST. ED. OPPONENT ST. ED. It seemed that every week a new fastest pin-record was set with the record now standing at 13 seconds by Dave Reno. The Beavers won their first dual in history by defeating Fullerton 53-18. They also broke their own record of highest number of points in a tournament when they scored 42 points at the conference match and had 5 medal winners. Although there were some highpoints there were also some lowpoints. The major disappointment of the year was the district match where only 2 wrestlers advanced to the State Tournament. Three of our wrestlers lost to people that they had previously beaten. The young wrestling squad is looking forward to next year and hoping to improve on their 2-5 dual meet record. 24 State Qualifiers: D. Reno, D. Homolka, and Coach Codinha FRONT ROW: Wells, D. They were Greg Stevens in the high jump; Bob Janda in the 100 and 220 yard dashes; John Kmiecik in the 220 and 440 yard dashes; and the 880 yard relay team which finished in sixth place at the state meet, consisting of Todd Meridith, Brad Williams, John Kmiecik, and Bob Janda. Even though the wins were few, the confidence and hope within the team was never lost. The unexperienced reserve and jr. high teams were unable to capture any wins throughout the season but the determination was always there. Many newcomers took interest in the sport. The efforts of the team may not be evident by the statistics but winning can go far beyound the final score! Connie Micek and Cary Micek were awarded the honor of All-Conference and All-Conference Honorable Mention respectively in the West Division of the Goldenrod Conference. 30 BACK ROW; Coach Sayler, Cynthia Dawson, Cary Micek, Connie Micek, Barb Hoffmeister, Sherry Channer, Lome Baustert, Jane Reardon. During the short 3-2 season they accomplished quite alot with the winning of the third place trophy in the Goldenrod Conference trouney. Lorna Kearney and Connie Micek were selected All-Conference West Division team. Each of the varsity players earned a letter through their season's efforts. The tracksters dropping to Class D competition this year, conquered many fine teams to win championship trophies at Kearney State Indoor, Howells Invitational, Goldenrod Conference, and District meets. Victories were not always present as the team placed second at Grand Island Northwest Invitational; third, Norfolk Invitational; sixth. Friend. The highlight of the season was the qualifying of Lorrie Baustert, Julie Evans, and Connie and Cary Micek in nine events to compete in the state competition, which turned out to be unforgettable as they finished tieing for third place in Class D. The memories and thrills of the accomplishments throughout the season for each individual as well as the team may go down in history. And who knows: Will history ever repeat itself? Helping out the group was the addition of two megaphones late in the year which increased the spirit of the group when yelling for and boosting on the boys. Pep Club consisted of seven officers, twelve cheerleaders, and twenty-two members. All were kept busy during the year by yelling for football, basketball, and wrestling. They also sponsored the annual Snowball dance and Twirp week which ended with another dance. Summing up Pep Club, we come to the conclusion that it was very busy and exciting year for all who participated. To start off the year a September picnic was held in the park. Several girls attended the District IV Convention at Lakeview in September during which Connie Micek was choosen as a candidate for state officer and the chapter received second place on their theme poster and scrapbook. October brought around the Powder Puff football game, which was won by the maroon team. On Work Day in November, the girls did odd jobs. In December, the FHA and FFA joined together for Christmas caroling and decorating and later, the girls held a children's Christmas party. The new year was off to a good start with Daddy Date Night in January. February brought National FHA HERO Week, Heartsister Week, and Sweetheart Dance. Election of the 1976-77 officers was held in March and in April, five of the new officers attended the State Leadership Conference in Lincoln. There, Connie Micek was elected district president. Also in April, a joint meeting was held with Albion and Genoa in Genoa. May brought the year to a close with the Style Show and installation of officers. TOP ROW: M. Lloyd, L. Zabka, M. Witt, L. Many long hours of hard work put in by fifty-five music students paid off as their production of Rodger's Hammerstein's Oklahoma was a great success. Many community people helped in building the stage and rounding up costumes and props to add to the musical production. Oklahoma was performed on March 30-31. The talents of Mrs. Mary Codinha as accompanist created the spirit of the musical. The constant reassurance and the get the job done attitude of director Miss Marcia Schieffer made the students realize what a little hard work can accomplish. Comments made after the last night of the production ranged from a new experience to fun to I'm relieved it's over. 51 Homecoming —1975 Senior Royalty—Bob Nicklasson, Darlene Mausbach, Ann Taylor, Kent Cruise. Homecoming has come and gone for another year, but the memories will always be cherished. The activities were numerous and highlighted with the winning of the game against Newman Grove, 7-0, on Sept. 26. The events began with the annual bonfire and snake dance on Thursday night. The student body, led by the cheerleaders, paraded through the streets yelling chants. A Bluejay dummy was thrown in the fire by Coach Bailey, and the students roared with spirit. The spirit carried over until the day of the big game when a community pep rally was held at a downtown intersection. Prizes were awarded for the winning floats and banners by the Student Council. 53 Sweetheart 1976 SWEETHEART ROYALTY—Ted Jensen, Connie Mahoney, Dave Johnson, Barb Hoffmeister, Ann Taylor, Terry Evans, Darlene Mausbach, Bob Nicklasson, Julie Evans, Marv Haas, Annette Taylor, B. Providing the musical entertainment was the Dennis Lewchuk Band. The terrific job on the preparation of decorations and food added alot of sparkle to the dance. A junior boy described the dance as definitely unique. “Feudin’ Over Yonder’ After being rescheduled because of a snow storm the play was performed on December 2. The Juniors taking a day off from school turned the new gym in to a hexagonal ballroom with all the walls being stuffed with napkins outlining several pictures symbolizing that you and me are free. Carrying on the freedom theme, the juniors constructed a showboat which was part of our American heritage when the United States became a free country. The music was provided by April Monday who used the showboat as their stage. The garden area was accented with a waterfall running down a mountain. Mothers of the juniors and ten sophomores served the 6:00 p.m. banquet. During the dinner program the Senior Class will and prophecy were read. Also, a dedication song was sung by several members of the Junior Class. After a smashing evening, many of the juniors and seniors took in a drive-in movie to conclude the success of prom. 57 Juniors Prepare 1. Scott Cumming, President 2. Juniors led an extremely busy year getting ready for Prom. The main thing on their minds was being sure of their money situation. The fall projects included a car wash and bake sale in October and the play in November. Spring brought a Penny Carnival and raffle to their minds along with final preparations for the dance. Understanding is knowing without words how friends feel; Perceiving the joy sorrow or pain they are experiencing; Identifying with their secret longings, personal successes and failures; Knowing what to say or not to say; Making their burden easier to bear and their happiness more real because they are sharing it. 62 63 Sophomores Do — A Little Of Everything! 1.
