St. Edward Public School St. Edward, Nebraska There can be no happy endings Without beginnings. So, why wait? Let us begin. Lois Wyse On September 18, 1972, 186 high school and junior high students entered the doors of a new school building. With the students came the excitement of new teachers, new classrooms, and different subjects. It was hoped that St. Edward would have some winning teams in athletic competition, a top FFA chapter and exciting plays and activities. Each student also knew that there would be long boring classes, trips to the principal's office and tears of frustration when they came to school and realized that they were having a test in their first period class. Each school year has its good and bad times and this year was no different. Within this book lies many memories of the 72-73 school year. So why wait? Let us begin.

. . . And the • Walls Came Tumbling Down Tuesday, May 2, 1972 was the beginning of razing of the old St. Edward school building. As many interested spectators watched, old and happy memories were reminisced by the alumni and also the youngsters who had attended school in that building. Although it was sad to see the old school being tom down, St. Edward's citizens looked forward to the construction of the new K-12 building. Throughout the summer, builders were hard at work to get the school finished in time for the 72-73 school year. Rainy weather and other difficulties interfered and the students were unable to start until September 18. At that time only the high school section was finished enough to hold classes. The elementary grades attended school in the churches. However, in November they were able to move into the new building and at the end of the school year students and faculty were enjoying the complete use of St. Edward's new school. Below is a picture of the west view of the old school which was built in 1895. At the right of the page are pictures showing the destruction of the east side of the old building. The pictures at the bottom show the new building from the north and west sides. 4 new school
