Judy Reardon and Kathy Anderson's essays entitled What are my Responsibilities as a Student in an American School won first and second places at County Government Day. Each received a trophy and S.E.l-LS. received the travel- ing plaque for the second year. Judy Reardon was crowned Sweetheart of the FFA chapter. Sharon Taylor was runner up. District VII FHA Convention was held in St. Edward. Five chapters attended. Gloria Swanson was installed as District News Reporter and Sharon Taylor as District Secretary. A son, Michael John, was born to Mr. and Mrs. Kelly Liewer, December 20, 1958. A banquet was held in honor of the football squad. Those who received honors were--Captains of the year, Rich Cruise and Rich Carlsong Out- standing Lineman, Rich Cruiseg Out- standing Back, Mick Caseg and Most Valuable Player, Rich Carlson. The Junior Class received their class rings. The victors of the inter-class touma- ment were the boys from the class of '6O. They have a record of 2 years straight in a row. The music department attended the 14th annual choral clinic at Albion. Virgie Koerber was named 1959 Betty Crocker Homemaker of To- morrow of S.E.H.S. She received a pin. Judy Reardon and Gary Thompson were chosen to represent St. Ed- ward at the annual Girls' and Boys' state. Marlene Whidden's essay entitled Space Age Challenge to America won first prize of 310.00 in the Albion V.F.W. essay contest District Class C Basketball touma- ment was held at St. Edward. Spald ing Acad. won first and Genoa second. The FHA held a Mother Daugh- ter Banquet. The FFA boys served. During the Sweetheart Dance Virgie Koerber and Rich Carlson became our FHA and FFA Queen and King. 40 They were selected because of their outstanding accomplishments in the two organizations. Rich Carlson and Kathy Anderson were chosen Color Day King and Queen. The selection was made on their onsombles. Marlene Whidden, Gloria Swanson, and Judy Reardon were chosen to attend State FHA Convention in Lincoln. The one-act play, SidetracL:ed was selected to attend the Declamatory Contest in Norfolk and received a good rating. The Girls' Sextet and Boys' Octette attended the music contest at Central City. Both received a 3. Rich Carlson received the Legion Scholarship. During the school year the Sophomore boys and girls changed home ec. and ag. classes. The Junior Class put on the Beaver Booster. Mr. Moore, Bud Francis, Gary Thomp- son, Dean Wheeler, Lanny Rasmussen, LeRoy Niemann, Jerome Gasper, Jerry Mahoney, Gene Klassen, Max Thoma- zin, Berlyn Bryan, Jerry Osantowski, Larry Gavlik, and Marvin Rinkol at- tended the State FFA Convention where Lanny Rasmussen received the State Farmers Degree.
