We dedicate this annual to John Hood, custodian, for the many little things he does, which we have not fully appreciated in the hope that it will express our gratitude. 2

High School Song Faithful and true hearted. Let us boast for our Old High. We revere her and defend her, And her colors proudly fly. We will stand for her, united. Of her deeds we gladly tell. Her colors streaming, Glad faces beaming. So here's a cheer for her we all love so well. II Honors she has taken, On the track and with the ball. May her colors never fall; There's no other that can match her, When her team is on the field. Her boy's the sweetest, Her girl's the fleetest, Thenhere'sa cheer for her, for her who ne'er will yield. Chorus Joyous and ever loyal, J .et us boost our Old High. Let every heart sing, Let every voice ring, There's no time to grieve or sigh. It's ever onward, our course pursuing May defeat ne'er our ardor cool. But, united, we will boost for her, our Old High School. HIGH SCHOOL YELL Brackerty rax carix caree Brackerty rax carix caree High Oh umdee dah Ullah balee balee balah St. Ed. High School. Rah! Rah! In 1870, 65 years ago, there were no white people in Boone county. It was then just a meeting place for the Indians, the Sioux from the north and the Pawnees from the south. The first settlers came in 1871 and in 1872 a school district No. 10 was organized, but it was so large as to be inconvenient so it was divided and No. 17 was organized with about the same boundaries as at present. They arranged for the building of the first school house, which was located in the northwest part of town, the town at that time was north of Beaver street and west of the railroad. There was nothing east of the track. The material for this building was all hauled from Columbus that being St. Edward's trading point as we had no railroads. Volunteer workers erected the building. Miss Kittie Coyle was chosen first teacher. This one room school house served as St. Edward's school and was really a community center. A few years later the building was inadequate to care for all the children, so a fine two story frame building was constructed on the location of our present day brick building. This building had two rooms, one on each floor, the Primary department naturally occupying the lower room. Two teachers were employed and all of this was a remarkable advancement. The class of '93 was the first to hold a graduating exercise. There were but two graduates. In 1893 the west wing of the present brick structure was built and attached to the two story frame building. In 1912 a kindergarten building was built. In 1917 a brick addition was added to the east, which gave us a fine brick structure----and a gymnasium with a real stage. In 1929, a Smith Hughes building was erected on the north east corner of the high school campus. This year the school house was completely redecorated. 3
