High. Together they won the Columbus Invitational and the District Meet and lost only to Palmer by a fraction of a point in the Central City Invitational. Outstanding runs and sprints were made by Bob Carter and Lyle Reed. Lyle's 10.6 and 23.2 were the best performances ever made by a Beaver trackman in the 100 and 220. Bob won all three regular season mile runs and placed second in the State Meet at Lincoln. This season's track team is pictured below. Three lettermen are back in. There are fifty-seven members in Girls' Glee Club and twenty-seven members in Boys' Glee Club and a combined number of eighty-four in Mixed Chorus this year. Some of the highlights were the Albion Clinic in January in which sixty-one S.E.H.S. students participated. Also the annual Christmas program was enjoyed by a huge crowd. The performance was put on by the grammar department with the assistance of the Mixed Chorus. 26 For the first time in many years, S. E. H. S. was fortunate to have an organized band this year under the direction of Mr. Ben Henry. After many hours of individual and group instruction, they made their first appearance at the St. Edward-Fullerton game on February 6. At several basketball and football games, the drummers accompanied the twirlers during their half-time performances. Two of the drummers, Jo Lightner and Sandra Moore, accompanied the twirlers on their trip to Lincoln to perform at the Veterans' Hospital. A few members attended the Harvest of Harmony in Grand Island Chamber of Commerce. Features at the spring concert were a percussion quintet and a clarinet quintet as well as several numbers by the entire band. 27 D. Raitt, J. Flaherty, M. Workman, J. Nieman, B. Reardon, B. To help achieve their goals they are sending CARE packages to an elderly family in Berlin, Germany. The chapter was awarded the Honor Chapter award last year, and are working on the award again this year. This award is given to very few chapters in the state of Nebraska. Some of their activities during the year were selling candy during games, and during the noon hour. They also had a party for the F.F.A. boys. At Christmas they sang Christmas carols, and exchanged Christmas gifts. They plan to have a slumber party at the end of the year. Major goals of F.T.A. are to develop more efficient teachers and to prepare its members for the teaching profession. A special goal this year has been for each member to cultivate in herself qualities of character and personality which are foundations for successful teaching. Activities of each meeting included a business session, a workshop in which handicrafts were learned, a social period which included an exchange of teaching ideas, visiting and refreshments. Highlights of this year's activities included visits to rural schools, District 31, Boone Co.; District 65 and District 27 of Platte County. A Christmas party with the exchange of gifts was enjoyed in December. Each month the normal training room was decorated with seasonal art work. The current club had a larger enrollment than it has had for several years, its membership including nine juniors and six seniors. The official Pep Club uniform for this year consisted of a maroon corduroy skirt, white sport blouse, and a white beanie monogrammed with S. E. At the beginning of the second semester a new division was added to the Pep Club which consisted of girls in the fifth to eighth grade who wished to join. This younger group of girls was ably lead by Shirley Weldon, one of the first team cheerleaders. One project undertaken by the Pep Club this year was the selling of St. Edward booster pins. Our budding artists have displayed their talents in the fine work they did while decorating boards before games. Fine talent was also displayed in the humorous skits presented at some of the pep rallies. 35 @6eenlead i i Firsf Team: Udine Fisher, Shirley Weldon, Ardath Milburn, Jo McColl.
