Tommy Brown Dick .lanes CEDAR RAPIDS The season s opener brought a large crowd to observe the Beavers overpower Cedar Rapids 39 to 2l Bemg the f1rst qame it was marred by fumbles Bxll Snavely received a fumble and Baker drove over for the tally Fischer Moore and Baker brought the Beavers out on top SPAULDING ACADEMY St Ed marked up a second vlctory by defeatmq Spauldmq 36 to 20 Spaulding took the open1nq kickoff but fumbled the ball and Denny Moore recovered and went over for a T D Good runs by Fxscher Moore and Weed took the ball down the f1eld and Moore drove to pay dlrt The half ended 12 to B In the second half Spauldmg fumbled settmg a St Ed tally PALMER The undefeated Beavers met the undefeated Palmer ln the thlrd t1lt of the season Palmer drove to the Beaver 5 yard l1.ne only to be held by the St Ed l1ne A Fischer to Weed pass brought a Beaver score Again Palmer marched down the fteld but Flscher intercepted a pass and thxs enabled Baker to hxt pay dxrt A Fxscher to-Moore pass brought the half score to 22 to 0 Coach Cook put 1n the second team after the half and the qame ended 36 to 6 PLATTE CENTER The Beavers started slowly and the Dxscoverers found a defensive weakness and ran three T D 's Us1nq the Bancroft Spread Fischer tallied from the 30 The half score was lB to 6 for Platte Center Janes Weed and Fischer showed fxne 1n the second half Ftscher scored and Weed scored on a Fischer pass Then wxth l2 seconds remamxng F1scher ran 60 yards with a punt to bnnq a Beaver vrctory 28 to 27 SACRED HEART St Edward rode to xts f1fth vxctory by downmq Sacred Heart for the first time in three years The fust half was hxqh lxqhted by a 70 yard touchdown run by Fxscher The half stood 6 to 0 In the second half the Beavers really qot to rollmq and the qame ended 28 to 6 LEIGH The Beavers went through Lelqh s hard fxqhtmg team for a 34 to 35 win The qame qot off to a fast start when St Ed scored ona 20 yard Flscher to Weed pass Baker Moore and Flscher each hxt pay dtrt before the half ended Lexqh attempted a comeback xn the second but faxled RISING CITY The boys fromB1sinq Clty were no match for the Beavers St Ed scored in every quarter with the second team playxnq most of the qame The fxnal score was 54 to 14 BANCROFT Spectators saw a hard fouqht game when St Ed met Ban croft F1scher ran 60 yards for a T D in the f1rst quarter but Bancroft re peated with a 51 yard run The half ended 14 to 8 Baker started the scorlnq LH the second half Bancroft then pushed over two T D s to lead but Baker scored on a 56 yard run and Flscher talhed another Thls 38 to 27 Beaver vtctory brought to a close the hxgh school football career of four semors Hal Hasselbalch Larry Baker B1llWeed and B111 Snavely Denny Moore Don Olson Lyle Reed Bull Snavely
