Though the charioteers and their magnificent horses of Rome and Greece's Golden Age have passed away, the true splendor and beauty of the Latin language is still with us today. With the help of our books, The View From Pompefs Head, Rome and Her People, we can see the all-mighty Caesar in his royal box at the Circus Maximus and hear the salutations of the brave gladiators Nos morturari te salutamusf' Latin is all around us, in our medicine and in law. Many of our laws are based upon what the Romans said hundreds of years ago Another instance is our language Sixty per cent of it comes from the Latin Words like regal from regina liberal from liber, hortatory from hortor, sequence from sequor, magistrate from magister and mother from mater are good examples. Rome ruled the then known world for a long, long time. Her culture was the greatest and most civilized. In her peristyles, baths, her luxurious gardens, her homes with their atriums, murals and tiled floors, her roads like Via Appia, her buildings like the Forum, Pala- tine and Circus Maximus, we can see the greatness of the Latin mind and culture.
