-7 i' I Catholic Youth Week YOUTH SPACE AND SANCTITY Yours is the space age. Like all other ages. it will leave its mark upon all walks of life - science. business. education. culture. And it will leave its mark on you. the youth of today. who are probably destined to be the first of the spacemen. and certainly destined to become saints in thc Kingdom of Cod. The space age can spark your ambition and make you want to learn more. or it can fill your lives with comforts ef all kinds and make you lazy: it will bring you closer to Cod as it increases your knowledge of His Creation, or it will seem lo make this life of prime importance. and it will turn you away from Cod. Here. then. is the challenge that you face: to live in an age of material progress. to enjoy the good things in life. without losing sight of your Cod, and the reward that He has in store for you. Bro. Patrick. S.C. Both in this Space Age which is already opening. and in the Christian Era which will ultimately prevail. American Catholics. and especially the youth of America. will have a gigantic role to play. It is typically American to feel that we are not doing anything unless we are doing something big. But. from the Chris- tian point of view. there is no one thing that is bigger than any thing. The 12igne.s-.9 comes from the way we zzccomplislr these flzilzgs. In life each one must assume his own responsibilities. Christianity is not merely a matter of principles. it is a life. And science nowadays is part of everyones life. For this reason. the Church recognizes the value of science. she understands sciences strength. and wants it to occupy the position it justly deserves. Everyone. of course, may not be a sci- entific 'iPioneer like Thomas Edison or Slarie Curie. but all must be in the Vanguard of Christian civilization.
