And so we come to the Basilica of Saint Mary Major, the fourth of the Patriarchal Churches. Our journey ends at this miraculously- born structure-miraculous, for a beautiful leg- end says that it was Our Lady herself who pointed out its site by causing snow to fall there in the middle of summer and by appearing at one and the same time to Pope Liberius and the Patrician john to tell them of this wonder. This white and gold church is considered by many to be the most beautiful in Rome. Its carved ceil- ing is gilded with the first gold brought from the New XVorld. This makes us feel a bond of union. and so we proudly unfurl our banners and fearlessly march forward as Children of Maryukthe CATHOLIC YOUTH OF AMER- ICA! GT i y I I THE BASILICA
