If X PM lvl' fx JI fix rm J mgrfeen SEN O X CLASS Nmefeen JUN Ox CLASS 1 w C SS PHOMORF CLA SO 3 1 CLASS MAN ESH -4 5 Q Q3 , 6 J nl FR CLASS HISTORY N September 10 1933 the thurteen orugunal members of the Class of 1937 assembled to begun theur studues at St Domunuc Academy lt seems only yesterday that we stood un front of the school watchung the confudent upper classmen on the porch renewung old fruendshups and at the same tume keenly unspectung us the tumud freshmen When the school doors opened we mounted the steps and crossed the threshold to be ushered to the room on our rught by a pleasant smrlung nun who was to be our home room teacher Here we were untroduced to four gurls who we were told would funush theur courses the January before us but as members of the Class of 1937 would receuve theur Duplomas wuth us Durung the followung weeks we became acquaunted wuth those unfam uluar subjects Latun Algebra and General Scuence We also met our beloved Monsugnor McClary whose warm hearted welcome was the funal touch un makung us feel at home un S D A The Freshmen soon settled down to study and to struve for exemptnons un the mud year examunatuons The Senuor Halloween party accompanued by unutuatuon was a very enjoyable feature Next we masqueraded as wautresses un the Freshmen Tea Room at the annual bazaar Every effort was put forth to make thus event a huge success for a holuday was promused and to a Freshman was not a holuday a coveted reward? Our furst Chrustmas vacatuon as hugh school gurls passed all too quuckly Examunatuons were fast approachung' Oh the suspense' We survuved how come quute educated we no longer called the scuence laboratory the kutchen nor the gymnasuum the garage At the begunnung of the new term our numbers were uncreased by the advent of Dorothy McEntee and Marue Parle Untul the Retreat durung Holy Week whuch was guven by Father Bouheus S J we were busuly occupued wuth school work Practuce for graduatuon at St Patrsck s Church found us gazung up at rocks and cluffs over whuch we must needs clumb before reachung the summut three years hence lnttle dreamung that when we beheld the landmark we should not welcome ut Successful examunatuons followed by promotuons ushered us forth to a gloruous vacatuon When we returned un September gay young Sophomores we found that Dorothy Freeze Bernuce Kennedy and Loretta Kung had uouned our ranks We all dud not pursue the same studues Whule some of us learned un the Latun class that Caesars Gaul was duvuded unto three parts and un the Buology class that a grasshopper us not terrufyung uf loud out on a dussectung pan the others were untroduced to the untrucacues of busuness aruthmetuc and commercual law The enture class assembled for French however where lufe was made more unterestung through our untroductuon to Iuu and the Three Bears lt was decuded that o school sodaluty should be formed and un due tume T enty t o I I , . . . . Thus was the furst class whuch was pruvuleged to have uts commencement un St Peters Colluns Memarual Gymnasuum Successful examunatuons and pleasant partucupatuon un the Graduatuon Exercuses ended our second year un S D A In the fall we were made happy by the regustratuon of Louuse D An gelo Mary Mahon lall the way from Broaklynl and Muruam McCahull Our unterest an dramatucs unspured us to present a Chrustmas Play whuch was well receuved by the faculty and the student body Thus was the burth of the Thespnans our Dramatxc Socuety Busy as we were we found tume to sung at a novena held un the Blue Chapel Unuon Cuty un honor of Blessed Martun Here we met Father Vahey O l? who later on un the year conducted our Retreat un Suenna Hall To prove our apprecuatuon of Shakespeare shortly after the Easter Vaca tuon we trouped to New York to see Hamlet and Mudsummer Nughts Dream guven by the Washungton Square Players Early un June we spent a few nughts tryung to wun fuzzy whute dogs at St Domunuc s furst outdoor bazaar Then came the great event to whuch the Junuors had been lookung forward sunce September the pleasure of pre parung for the Senuors Graduatuon breakfast One day whule practucung for graduatuan we opened our blue eyes lbrown and green ones tool when we heard Would you luke to wear caps and gowns at the Commencement? That was a seruous questuon Would the Senuors of 36 approve? If we wear them thus year wull we get a thrull next year? We decuded yes to both questuons and then eagerly awauted the afternoon when we should don these academuc gowns and march down the ausle that the followung year we should tread as graduates The mornung of June twenty furst was a memorable one At 8 30 the Senuors assembled un the Convent Chapel for Mass They presented a pretty pucture as they knelt at the Altar to receuve l-loly Communuon Followung the Mass a catered breakfast was served to the Senuors at whuch we were the pruvuleged hostesses September dawned agaun fundung us at last quuet dugnufued Senuors Our hearts were torn by Confluctung emotlons joy at havung attauned our goal sorrow at the thought that the Partung of the Ways was gradually Oppearung on the horuzon At the furst class meetung we duscussed a topuc whuch had been upper most un our munds sunce we came to Saunt Domunuc s-a Year Book The dream has become a realuty Twenty three . . , , , . . - 11 - - 11 - 11 1 11 - , . 1 11 - 1 - - 11 - - - ' 1 1 . . . , 1 1 ' 11 - 11 - - , . 1 1 1 ' 1 . ., , . We hope so, someone re- plied. Suddenly we were reminded by one in our bright little council that the privileged title of Seniors belonged to us. Forthwith plans for festivities to welcome the largest Freshman Class in years, were in the making.
