since home l1fe makes such a deep impression on the 1nd1v1dual s char acter However I believe that these problems should be attacked from another angle too-a preventive one Not every ones personality IS so clouded that no good can shine through Why not then try to re tain some of the acceptable points teenagers have Better yet why not try to stress and put on d1splay these noteworthy characteristics of young adults It really doesnt take a lot Just a little recognition and sincere interest need be shown by someone in a position to make a noticeable lmpression There could be local newspaper columnists and radio announcers political personalities churchmen and clergy teachers youth guides and a host of others who can publicize what good they know of youth and their functions I believe that if one gets these young adults to feel that their efforts are worthwhile they themselves w1ll be the magnet to attract others into following the crowd This very point was proved on November 29 when St Louis MISSOUFI opened its convention doors to the Third National Council of Catholic Youth Over 4 000 Catholic youth were there for the open mg session A decade ago an organization such as this was only a To date 47 d1OC6S6S are affiliated with the national office at Wash mgton DC These are made up of the local parish and city Cathohc youth clubs which are doing a twofold mission IH our own country First they are drawing together and strengthening those who are trying to prevent corrupt mfluence from affecting the decent ideas they grew up with For as in unity there is strength they encourage each other by thelr example and 1n1t1at1ve In this way they can then accomplish the second objective which is getting others to Join the army of youth flymg the standards of truth Yes now we have such an organization with high ldeals and what is needed is continued effort to build it even b1gger That is why the Church has its priests bishops and sisters encouraging us along the way President Eisenhower too sent a message to the opening session of the convention pra1s1ng its work high ideals and loyalty Before concluding we wish to express our gratiude to the alumnae for all the encouragement the inspiration and cooperation as well as the contributions they made to our hapiness and well being And to those who have suffered special sorrow by sickness and death we offer our sincere condolence With Bishop Sheen we say Bye now and God love you Your Alumnae Reporter Catherine Toth 436 97 , t . y p p .
