Readmg 111 C11 cles A person walkmg 1n clrcles IS usually 3dV1S6d to slow down and take a rest But one who reads 1n clrcles 1S a most welcome 1nd1v1dual ln any SOC16ty He can converse at ease wxth a doctor or a carpenter w1th a pol1t1c1an or a gardener preclsely because he reads 1n c1rcles F01 the past year or so I myself have been maklng a move 1n th1s d1rect1on It wasnt my own ldea In fact lt was a class project Each of us was g1ven a folder a so called Read1ng Deslgn wh1ch pre sented a clrcle sectlonally d1v1ded by toplcs Conduct Drama H1sto ry B1ography Careers Sclence Travel Muslc and so on After read mg a book we f1lled ln a small rlng 1n every sectlon under whlch the book could be classed In th1s way we avo1ded the not uncommon practlce of readlng 1n only one f1eld for we naturally deslred to round out our c1rcles At the same t1me we broadened our mterests and launched 1nto sub Ject matter that proved at t1mes fascmatlng always rowardmg It was an adventure that developed ln us 1n1t1at1vc self rehance and resourcefulness And all of thlb was the natural outcome of readmg 1n clrcles Patrlcla PI'llZlllSkX Q8 Brldgeport Connect1cut 15? Alma Mater s F1rst Alumna Daughter From my 63,I'1l6St years I remember my mother s speakmg wlth prlde of her Alma Mater at that tlme Slovak Glrls Academy nofw Samt Cyrll Academy I recall her tellmg how the school opened ln 1922 and how happy she was to be a student there a. few years later I remembered makmg V1S1tS w1th her to see the S1sters who had taught her I can see her look of Joy and prlde the day my s1ster put on her umform and entered Salnt Cyrll Academy as a freshman four years ago Great as has been her grat1f1cat1on up untll now It IS as nothmg Rose Mary marches even as she herself had marched 1n 1934 p the central amsle to the strams of Pomp and Clrcumstance She wlll rellve her own golden moment when Rose Mary PCCGIVUS the Well earned sheepskm from the hands of H1s Excellency Memor1es wlll awaken wlthm her as the strains of Alma Mater bless thy daughters ere they leave thy fold f1l1 the aud1tor1um But more than anythmg else she w11l be profoundly grateful to God by Whose lovmg Prov1dence 'Rose Mary and I have been able to recelve an educatxon that 1S second to none Jeanne Nlcholas '57 Danvllle Pennsylvanla 103 5, . compared with the thrill of joy she will doubtlessly experience when .. 1 ' .-. u
