W, 8 R if All men are born with an insatiable yearning to regain Gods gift of knowledge, lost to us through the fall of our first parents. Learning is but one of the steps which leads us to our eternal goal -Truth. Each man, to possess the light of knowledge, must discover the best way to use his abilities, so that in his own quest for learn- ing he will find ultimate happiness for others as well as for himself. This quest involves long years of study and labor, and only those who persevere will succeed. just as a knight was required to prove himself by heroic feats, so a graduate must have passed the hurdles of learning. How Co-Duke crusaders pursued this quest is portrayed in the next section. r f L ' Monsignor Dunn blesses two graduates, Yolanda Yourell and Donald McDonnell. f 1 X! In medieval times, playful tests of skill and enjoyment, known as jousts, were engaged in. A strict code of fair play and honor was maintained These mock battles were intended, moreover, to develop prowess for actual combat. Modern American sports have a like purpose, although the skill and ex- perience derived is not usually followed up by serious pugilistic contests. Rather, from engaging in athletics a more lasting benefit is derived-man- liness and all that it implies. Co-Duke grid, cage, and diamond Crusaders have accepted the chal- lenge flung out by medieval knights. They, too, have fought with valor and skill.
