XX Conformed fo His Image... Typical of the interest in reading at St. Coluinbkillcfs is this picture of a group of sophomores browsing through books and book jackets displayed during Catholic Book week in the library. Here Paul Ryan and llichard Hutter are discussing a jacket, while Marie Pluym glances over a hook that Davis Dillon has selected. At the table reading are Nancy Smith, left, and Barbara Tigges, right. Several sophomore students are shown writing letters to their senators and repre- sentatives regarding the passing of a federal aid to non-public schools bill. This project was conducted throughout the high school in all English classes. Left to right are Loras Nemmers, Agnes Cain, Paul Ryan, Mary Ag- nes Kenneally, Thomas Brimeyer, Donald Cain, and Irvin Clanz. Two sophomore homeinaking students. Anne Marie Holmberg, left, and Ellen Nlc- Carron, right, appear in this picture with specimens of their sewing. Mary Lon Blasen and Nlary Kress, non-homemaking pupils, ex- amine a skirt of Ellen's making. A familiar sight at any time of the day is this one of interested boys shooting baskets in the outdoor court. Left to right, XVayne Noel, Xvilllkllll Latimer, Donald Ley. and XVil- fred Meyer are sharpening their skill. Page forty-five l 5 5 V925 aims 'sk SAB t-11 X BH KM, -ie? if we we sn? However, throughout the whole basketball season they certainly did possess the paramount trait of sports- manship, for, eager to win, they went into every game fighting. and when they came out losers they were more determined than ever to do better the next time. That the girls improved is evident from the many well played games which were lost by only small margins. Xf X C o a c h Barbara Kane deserves much credit for her efforts in training the girls and helping them to keep up their dauntlesss enthusiasm. Among the Ducketts who will be missing next year are seniors Nlary Nieyer, who did an outstanding job as guard, with jeanette Schuster. Kath- leen Loes. Sally Thompson. Niarie Cannon. and Pauline Cassidy. as hard working helpers. Taking the graduates' places are several experienced juniors. As for- wards Evie Salz and Barbara Trapp have already shown their talent. while promising guards are Imelda Schuster, Kitty Purcell, and Nlillie McLaughlin. ,512 13111111 B11s1111 ss 111111111111 1Nl11l1iQI1 Lo1s 131111 111111 U 11111 C 1111111111111 IS 111 11 1L 11111111 1 or11 1x1 1111 om 1x OX 131111 111111 U 11111 19-19 C11 1111f111s S111N 11 11111111 11111111 1ro1111s 1 11111111 C111111f111s U l Apostolate of the Prlnted Word s111oo 1111 11111 x1f1r111 Il 1 1111 111otto S1111t11x 1111 11o11x 11yp1111t1nQo 11 s It If xxUI1xlIS 1111 t111s1 s111oo1 111111111 ltlOllS 111 tr 1111111 to t1111 I'tSPOIlSl1Jl1ltX 1111 1111ts to 1tt 1111 2,3001 11 In 11011113 so 11111 111111 111x1lo1 1111 s 1 111 xx 101501111 11 111111 101 t111 8111114111 11o1v X Ltftllll 1n1t11r1tx of 111 Illillf 11111 11111111 1t1o11 of 1llf,,1l 10lllIlI1lStlL st 11111'1r11s of Wfltlllff 11111 1111116 up 11'1 1111111111111 11111 Illllllfflllg th1 pument of pflfltlllg 19 another 1sp1Jct of 131119111 1110115 The 111181111 ss st 111 811011111115 the NVOITX of findmg IIIOIIGY 11111 of 1111111111151 1l1NtI1lS1llQ: t111 so11111 o1 most 1311111101 In LOIISCCILIGIILG svste1n1t11 11 s1111ss11111 11111115 111 lllStl 1 1 111 11111111011 to t111 PKISOII 11 x 11111s 1111111r111 hx st1f1 1111111111 rs bt Lolumh 111111 s 111111111 1.110118 PIUINOt6 11111 Stltllgulill school 9171111 hx 511111111 IS puhhc 1t11111s 1 11s1 111 11t1x1t11s of t111 s11 131111 111111 1111111 B11s1111xs S111 M ll. Dedication fo Mary A candle lighting ceremonx' marked the initiation ol- 32 junior students into The Blue and XVhite this year. Although the name of the school paper has always horne our l,ady's colors. this was the first formal dedication ceremony. Before an especially erected shrine of the Blessed Virgin. senior editors passed on their respective offices to their successors. As they did so they presented a candle sym- holizing a letter in the name of their patron. Maria. Upon receiving the lighted candles the five new editors interpreted a virtue from the lite of the Blessed Virgin which they adopted as a standard in their work on The Blue and YVhite. They then placed their can- dles in a czuidelahra hetore our Ladfs statue. lfach staff member in turn advanced to the shrine and lit a candle. after which all united in reciting a pledge of tidelitv to uphold the qualities ot' merit. amhition. responsi- bility. initiative. and alertness. Father Dunn presented medals for Quill and Scroll recognition in a national inter- view and editorial contest.
