Soft music for the Crusaders was pro- vided by the Knights. Dancing couples moved slowly in intricate patterns-- caught in the sway of sweet rhythm. The confusion of the past week was forgotten. The boys gave no thought at all to the trouble they'd had in getting Dad to give up his car for the evening. Girls, lost in happiness, didn't even remember the problems that had accom- panied that new dress. For the moment everything--home, school, work--was gone. Everything that is, but the dance. Crusaders' Homecoming Court of 1959: Seated Cl. to r.J Queen Lorraine Markowicz and King Robert B. Miller. Standing Cl. to r.j-Joseph Ranieri, Margaret Rostow, Patricia Thebert, Gary Houghton, PatriciaDerbin, EdwardMeduvsky, Kathleen Miller, andRobert Ciesliga. I Could Have Danced All Nght Hushed became the hall. Quietly the Court stood. King Bob placed the glittering crown on Queen Lorraine's head. Crusader joy knew no bonmds. Varsity men's gift to the Queen--an autographed football--in true form, passed from Captain Gary Houghton to King Robert who presented it to the Queen. Lines took shape and the Grand March began. Circles, curves, zig-zags moved across a.nd around the floor. Camera bulbs flashed, conversation scintillatedg gowns rustled. As the even- ing progressed, hearts and minds be- came centered on the parade and game to follow in two days. Toast of the Town won top prize in the judgment of Homecoming floats for the Class of '61. Constructed of aluminum foil, the float featured popping victory toast. Captain Gary Houghton and Bob B. Miller, tackle, surrender St. Rita in effigy to the flames. School spirit reached the heights of the night sky, riding on the flames of the bonfire. The stalwart men of St. Clem- ent'sfootba1lsquad took bows before the student body. King Bob Miller introduced the glamorous Court of '59, and Ed Meduvsky and Bev Chuckry pushed spirits even higher with vigorous pep talks. Cheerleaders' cheers for St. Clement High brought doum the thunder from the sky. ili- The Crusader victory key opened the Crusaders Marched to Victory way to second place for the freshmen. through the sophomores' Arch of Tri- umph. l 'Triumph came on Wings to fourth place seniors who won a trophy for the most cars in the motorcade.
