Page Twelve THE CREST october so, 1959 . Derbin 'il J. Fuerst Rosary Honors Mary Let us give prayerful thanks for the nation's heritage of free inquiry, soundindustry, and boundless vision which have enabled us to advance the general welfare of our people to unprecedented heights. . . These were the words of President Eisenhower as he consecrated October 7, 1959, as National Prayer Day in America. This observance, the eighth annual Day of Prayer was established by a joint resolution of Congress in April, 1952. In Rome, Pope John XXIII had already set aside the entire month of October for prayer so that leaders of all nations may carefully consider their grave responsibilities on this day. The St. Clement Sodalists observed National Prayer Day with their seventh annual Living Rosary. In a beautiful, solemn ceremony they C. Megge J. Quitter G. Houghtonlllll .f 3 pledged their love and devotion to the Blessed Mother. Heldonthe evening of October 7, 1959, the Rosary began with a solemn procession of the Sodalists down the center aisle of the church. Ronald Peters led the rosary with the Apostles' Creed, Accompanying him were the two acolytes, Lawrence Chmielewski and Melvin Atkinson. Hugh Malloy, Kathleen Gietzen, the Sodality prefect, Theresa Koernke, Carol Golembiewski, and John Zahorchak followed with the first part of the Ro- sary. As each girl, representing a Hail Mary, finished her prayer, she placeda rose at the feet of the statue of Our Lady. The boys of the Sodality represented the Glorias and Paters. Whenthe ceremony ended, the flag bearers, Michael Schweder and James Joseph, led the procession out of the church. John Zahorchak was responsible for the fine job of organizing the Living Rosary. at N '31, I s. D, Chgnkg D. Zerio J. Ll6tZ ffm rv? I g ba H-, 1 J. Fix J.
