QS! GQFQ agar 50500 All hail to thee, Alma Mater Dear St. Clare Walker High School, so named after the eminent Professor John Henry St. Clare Walker, a native of Middlesex County, and currently teacher of mathematics, but for a number of years was principal, has grown from a small frame building at Syringa, Virginia, to a moderately large well-equipped brick one now located at Stor- mont, Virginia. At one time the school was called Langston Training School because a Rev. Langston helped to organize it. Later the school became Middlesex High School with a beginning staff of two teachers .for the high school department. Graded school and high school were in the same building. The present school does not have a graded school depart- ment. Our school now has a faculty of twelve and a secretary, all holding at least one degree. ln it there are a Home Economics Department, an adequately equipped Sci- ence Department, a gymnasium, a library, and sanitary facilities. The cafeteria and the Agriculture Department are located in another building. Sufficient space is pro- V vided for athletics. For a number of years the school has been accredited by the State Board Of EdllC3Ii0H. but recently it became accredited by the Southern Association of Secondary Schools and Colleges. In addition to its basic courses, it offers courses in French, bookkeeping and account- ing, typing, shorthand, physical education, extra courses in home economics and agri- culture, social problems, music appreciation, and band. Through its extracurriculum activities, St. Clare Walker High School challenges its students to develop themselves morally and physically. It further challenges them to try to face their problems squarely and fairly, to follow worthwhile standards, and to develop themselves in every possible way to become better citizens. St. Clare Walker, May thy sons and daughters all be brave and strong, True to thee and true to l-lim above.
