This group is the link between faculty and students, organized for the purpose of promoting the general welfare of the school and the community. Such a group aims to allow the students to share in the governing of the school. It further aims to foster good citizenship This year, in order to give the students of St. Clare walker High School an idea about how the election of officers is carried on in our National Government, the Student Council promoted a Nell-or- ganized plan for the election of its officers. These plans includ- ed the formation of two parties, namely, TFE BLUES CLucy Thornton, leaderl, and THE E'mIT3SKSylvia Thurston, leaderl. The students were divided into four districts according to the communities in which they live. Approximately three weeks were devoted to cam- paigning during assemblies, homeroom periods, and in between times, posters, pennants, head-bands, and slogans exhibited the enthusiasm of the entire school. At the proper times pupils registered and paid a two cents poll tax, failure to meet these requirements dis- oualified them for voting. THE BLUES were successful in putting into office their presi- dential candidate, however, other officers were elected from both parties. The inauguration of the newly elected officers to the Student Council was on October 26, from 1:30-3:00 P. M., its program was conducted in a stately manner with a procession led by the officers elect. Mr. Walker presented the president-elect to Mr. Latimore, who swore him into office. 30
