at if 4, J CLASS PRCPHECY As the senior class of 1957 leaves St. Clare Walker High School, everyone is looking forward to a happy and success- ful future. Here we are in l97Og how time does fly, but it appears to be what each of us has hoped for. We see Virginia Major as head of the Mathematics Department at the University of Cali- fornia, while Angelette Fitchette is Dean of Women. Annie Harris is teaching English in Paris, and Sylvia Thurston is traning for the 1970 Olympics. Rosie Faucett, Ishmalia Clark, and Olivia Hall operate the largest Beauty Salons in Virginia, and Olivia is introducing her new home permanent. Frances Laws is progressing very well alsog she is now the most outstanding barber in Detroit, Michi- gan. Who could be more prominent secretaries than Ora Miller, Mae South and Doris Wingfield? Ruth Frazier is doing exceed- ingly well in this field and is a contestant in the World's Typing Contest. How proud we are of Doris King who is an outstanding pe- diatrician in Philadelphia, and Raymond Jarvis, a pharmacist operating his own drug store in Washington, D. C. Look! there are James Smith, Timothy Harris, and Clarence Jackson, leading men on television. There's Sherman Holmes on William Lewis's variety show as a great deep-sea diver and own- er of stocks in some of the largest businesses in the United States. Davaline Taliaferro is back from her 3rd trip around the world and writing commercials for Walt Disney Enterprises. In Madame Butterfly's exclusive dress salon, Delight McGill is modeling some of the most beautiful garments designed by Rosetta Dobbins. I quickly entered into the A ollo Theatre to witness per- formances by the Pours-Guess who? Flossie Hammond, Marceline Reede, Mary Jordan and Lillian Johnson as the top 'Rhythm and Blues' stars appearing in New York City. Lucy Thornton is now one of the judges of Virginia's Su- preme Court, and Helen Fields is a science research worker in one of the largest research laboratories in Boston, Massachu- setts. HISTORY OF THE CLASS OF NS7' In September of 1952, this class of forty eight enrolled in St. Clare Walker High School under the principalship of Mr. Charles I. Thurston and the careful guidances of Mrs. E. D? Holges. Many of us joined the school activities that were o fere . As freshmen, with Mrs. Carmen S. Thurston as our sponsor, we took active parts in the NHA and NFA and moved into our new building which was an addition to our school. Four new pupils joined us from West Point and added to our enrollment. In the annual February 22nd program we competed with other classes. Our queen, Olivia Hall won for us first prize. Also, we won first prize in the NHA Popularity Contest with Annie Harris as queen. ' Better experienced and more responsible we entered the sophomore class, Mr. James D. Madison as sponsor. Because of our over-activeness and surplus enervy, we were known as 'Hazels.' Members of our class went to Virginia State College to re present the NHAQ Helen Fields, Annie Harris, Sylvia Thurston kansas for the National NHA Convention. William Lewis went to Georgia as a member of a quartet representing the MPA. Also, during that year Lucy Thornton joined our class. and Davaline Taliaferro. Annie Harris went to Pine Bluff, Ar- As Juniors, we became aware of the social highlights of the school, for all of us looked forward.to the Junior-Senior Prom, a thrilling experience. Our prom was very successful. y Again, first prize was ours for going over the t0D in the February 22nd, with Angelette Fitchette as queen. Annie Harris, a very active member of the class, became State Secretary of the NHA Organization. Well, time surely does flyg here we are seniors of '57W under the wonderful guidance of Mrs. Catherleen E. Cameron. Looking forward to the both sad and happy occasiong graduation. Looking back over the years, we have accomplished much. Although, our enrollment has decreased to only 29 members, we are proud and happy to share in the history of St. Clare Walker High School. The chewing gum of Clarence Jackson is left to Leon Law- son with hopes he doesn't get caught as much as he. The algebraic skills of Doris King and geometric skills of Virginia Major are left to Patricia Polson and Wendell Holmes Sylvia Thurston leaves her flighty ways to Lucy Lockley. Sherman Holmes leaves his sport car designs to William Lockley. ways Mary Jordan and Frances Laws leave their smooth, graceful to Samuel Beverly. Flossie Hammond wills her cool and crazy sense of humor to Franklin Jackson. Raymond Jarvis's crewcut is left to David Thorpe. Lillian Johnson and James Smith, those crazy singers, willingly leave that ability to Marion Stokes and Harry Cray. Joseph Thornton becomes the proud co-owner of Ora Miller's dancing style with James Young. Deli ht McGill wishes to leave her neat dancing and choice words to Shirley McGill and David Thorpe. Helen Fields and Davaline Taliaferro leave to James John- son and Thomas Carter their shortness. The softball pitching skills of Ruth Frazier are left to Merteen Bowen. Timothy Harris and Rosie Faucett leave their quiet manner and seriousness to Janet Hodges and Lucille Faucett. Ishmalia Clark leaves her quick and non-witty reply to Bessie Peterson and June Thurston. The artistic ability of William Lewis and Marceline Reed is left to Cleveland Johnson and Catherine Lincoln. fine To Julia Wake and Addie Harris, Lucy Thornton leaves her leadership ability. The jolly attitude and quiet manner of Mae South and Doris Wingfield are willed to Wilbur Walker and Daniel Billups. To Martha Burrell, Richard Lewis leaves his love.
