HISTORY OF THE CLASS OF NS7' In September of 1952, this class of forty eight enrolled in St. Clare Walker High School under the principalship of Mr. Charles I. Thurston and the careful guidances of Mrs. E. D? Holges. Many of us joined the school activities that were o fere . As freshmen, with Mrs. Carmen S. Thurston as our sponsor, we took active parts in the NHA and NFA and moved into our new building which was an addition to our school. Four new pupils joined us from West Point and added to our enrollment. In the annual February 22nd program we competed with other classes. Our queen, Olivia Hall won for us first prize. Also, we won first prize in the NHA Popularity Contest with Annie Harris as queen. ' Better experienced and more responsible we entered the sophomore class, Mr. James D. Madison as sponsor. Because of our over-activeness and surplus enervy, we were known as 'Hazels.' Members of our class went to Virginia State College to re present the NHAQ Helen Fields, Annie Harris, Sylvia Thurston kansas for the National NHA Convention. William Lewis went to Georgia as a member of a quartet representing the MPA. Also, during that year Lucy Thornton joined our class. and Davaline Taliaferro. Annie Harris went to Pine Bluff, Ar- As Juniors, we became aware of the social highlights of the school, for all of us looked forward.to the Junior-Senior Prom, a thrilling experience. Our prom was very successful. y Again, first prize was ours for going over the t0D in the February 22nd, with Angelette Fitchette as queen. Annie Harris, a very active member of the class, became State Secretary of the NHA Organization. Well, time surely does flyg here we are seniors of '57W under the wonderful guidance of Mrs. Catherleen E. Cameron. Looking forward to the both sad and happy occasiong graduation. Looking back over the years, we have accomplished much. Although, our enrollment has decreased to only 29 members, we are proud and happy to share in the history of St. Clare Walker High School. We pledge ourselves loyal to her and to our pa- rents, to continue to maintain our high standards and to strive to perform our tasks well. SiFUed A if -.3 Virginia Major W5 .X iq LA aa
