JE ME SOUVIENS The World s Crazrest Famrly About Baseball lt all started the Sunday after my graduation from the erghth grade that rs the baseball craze that suddenly turned our famrly into a staunch household of Red Sox fans Daddy sought relayeatron from hrs long tedious office hours by following the results achieved by the Boston players throughout the baseball season but rnterest and understanding were certarnly not to be found at home as far as that sport was concerned for the other members of the household were almost completely unaware of the fun one could derrve from so thrrllrng a sport So our forlorn Dad frnally resorted to playrng hrs own game Strangely enough the first ball he prtched headed for Fenway Park the home of our forthcoming rdols What a homer that was or was rt ' Our famrly was the ball Now my Dad rs a rather serrous man Lrke most busrness men hrs thoughts are almost entirely preoccupied with hrs work the results of the war the last move of the President and the hopes of hrs polrtrcal party for a smashing vrctory at electron time Yet as soon as Dom DrlVlaggro the leadoff man comes to bat Dad s office manners and composure drsappear he stands up Wrth the rest of the frantrc crowd and shouts hrs approval should the outcome of the play be fayorable At other trmes the usually unemotronal self possessed head of the Blars household starts an anrmated argument with the woman next to hrm stop that Red Sox wrnnrng streak When complicated hrts such as the baf fling Texas leaguers seem to be puzzling poor lrttle me he explains as patrently and thoroughly as rf he were analyzing a complicated case at law As for Mother Well she certarnly rs kept busy supplyrng her lrvely brood wrth peanuts or settling the arguments brought about by our drsputes over the two Scorecards for the chrldren have caught therr father s enthusrasm like the flu uret yet thoroughly rnterested Lynn rs definitely unlrke her old self Her cool apprarsal of the varrous plays enables her to account for the runs hrts and errors that the rest farled to notrce durrng the excitement Pop the rdol of the Blars household rand she certarnly does take advantage of rtj Pop also has her rdol and trs none other than tall lanky young Ted Wrllrams When Ted comes up to bat nervous strarn and tensron are plarnly written over Pop s face and she clings to Harry for mental support Should Ted dare to put the ball over the fence both srt there rn all therr glory Wrth beamrng eyes and smrles from ear to ear they vyatch therr hero make the trrp to the home plate As for me oh well you all know me No one can doubt after this rota of our baseball rnterests that my father prtched hrs famrly successfully across the plate ANNE ELIZABFTH BLAIS 41 4 UQ + I . .
