The School Orchestra Extraf Extraf Musicians wanted. Dust off your saxophones. clarinets and trumpets-they're soon to be in use. St. Clare's is forming an orchestra. That was what stared the students straight in the face in the second edition of FAC, the school paper. No sooner had the paper been distributed than a flock of musical A'geniuses presented themselves for tryouts. Soon, all over the house could be heard the rumbling drums. the squeaking of clarinets, the screeching of trumpets-in fact, it was the best combination of noises anyone had ever heard. Yet the young hopefuls carried on like real artists, despite the skeptical glances thrown at them every so often. The main topic of conversation centered about this new adventure. Rehearsals went on daily for three long and arduous months. Day by day, a slight mark of improvement was noticed. Finally, the squeaks. rumbles and screeches developed into rich. wholesome tunes. Yes. they had fought a great fight, and they had won the victory. St. Clares orchestra has now been in existence nine months. lt has sere- naded audiences at school plays and has accompanied singers at school meetings. 'l'he school is rather proud of its musicians: yet. no one but those same musicians know what a major part courage and perseverance had to play in the formation of the club. We must give them credit for having reached such heights despite strong criticism and much derision, RIENA Si't.v1Qs'1'Rti. '40 -if fc--
