School's Out march of f en tA SEPTEMBER VVeek of the first.-Tuesday and the first day of school. We didift have to report at 8:00. That put everyone in a good mood. Mr. Gregg came over and welcomed us to school. WVe all realized that we not only had a year of work ahead of us but also that we were going to have a good time. VVeek of the eighth.-On Monday the cheer- leaders were elected in assembly. The election was held early so they would have time to prac- tice before the first game. The cheerleaders were, as you know, Bill McHugh, Colleen Harris, Esther Edgar, and Nancy Ruehl. On Tuesday, a Girl Reserve cabinet meeting was held to make special plans for the Big Sisterv party. In assem- bly VVednesday, our schedules were more fully explained by Mr. Shannon. First Hi-Y Meeting of the year was held. The boys discussed how new members were to be brought into the club. Friday 13th-an unlucky date for our first foot- ball game. We had a pep meeting in assembly. The game in the evening was quite successful. Powhatan 6-St. C. 19. Week of the fifteenth.-In assembly Mon- day, Mr. Shannon gave an interesting talk on Attendance and Tardinessv. Tuesday, the Girl Reserves gave a Big Sisteri' party. All girls wishing to join G. R. were to attend. Games were played, refreshments served and their ini- tiation was explained to new girls. XVednesday in assembly, Dr. Bruce Sutton spoke on the effieets and uses of alcohol. Friday-XVhat a day!! The Gardas had twins, Ioan Lee and Janis Lynn. In assembly we had a pep meeting, after that a fire drill. That evening, the Cambridge game. It was rather wet, but the fellows plaved a swell game despite the mud. XVeek of the twenty-third.-In assembly Monday. Mr. Shannon gave another interesting talk. This time it was on Keeping the Building Cleanv. The Thespian board of directors ex- plained the purpose of Dramatics Club in assem- bly on WVednesday. There was also a Hi-Y Meet- ing to discuss football programs. The football team was called to the stage in assembly Friday. The Dennison game was at home and the final score was Dennison 0, and St. C. 7. OCTOBER VVeek of the first.-On Tuesday, Lucille Daugherty gave a long talk on the conference at Slippery Rock at Girl Reserves. One of the most interesting parts of this was the story of a woman who had been a German prisoner. On Wednes- day in assembly, Judge Albright spoke and gave many cases of the effect of liquor on minors. The first Student Council meeting of the year was held on Friday. They decided to hold their regular meetings on the second Tuesday of everv month. VVeek of the sixth.-A group of Thespians presented the one act play Reciprocity for Child WVelfare, Tuesday evening in the audito1'- ium. It was the story of a typical woman's club. In assembly on Wednesday, Mr. Shannon asked the students to dispose of their sling shots. After school, there was a Dramatics Club meeting in which the Thespian point system was explained. In the evening, Hi-Y held their informal initia- tion. Nothing happenedll Thursday, the movie i'Little Meni' sponsored by the Girl Reserves was held at noon. It lasted until 1:45. Girls, ensem- ble practiced for the first time. In assembly Fri- day, there was an extra long pep meeting. The Bridgeport game was at home and the score was 6-0. Bridgeport fans were not too happy about that. YVeek of the thirteenth.-Tuesday evening the Girl Reserves went on a hike. Hal McIntire played at the Capitol Theater in XVheeling which might explain the small attendance at G. R.'s. In assembly Wednesday, Mrs. Einstien spoke on alcohol and its effects. The Hi-Y had a dinner at VVillow Grove and then a candlelight service for new members. W'eek of the twenty-seventh.-Rev. Young gave a talk in assembly Monday on the meaning of songs. Tuesday after school there was a Girl Reserve Cabinet meeting. In the evening, the topic of the G. R. meeting was Tips for Teens . On NVednesday, the Home Economics Club had a meeting and a Hallowelen party. A short play was given in assembly Thursday to help promote the bond issue. It was written and directed by Mary VVaddell and showed why the people continued on page 38
