They did quite well for themselves, electing Mickey,' Marshall President, Barbara Troyano- vich, Vice-Presidentg Bud,' Simpson, Secretary, and Paul Cencula, Treasurer. The main event of the year for them was the party they planned. VVhen they became Sophomores they chose Ioe Ponzani, President, Paul Cencula, Vice-Presi- dent, Virginia Turner, Secretary, and Mary Louise Scott, Treasurer. During the year thev proved their abundant talents and again had a class party. Now as Juniors they elected George Ney, President, Iohn Mriz, Vice-President, Andy Ho- bart, Secretary, Paul Cencula, Treasurer, and joe Ponzani and Mary Waddell to represent them in Student Council They presented the play Daddy Longlegsf ordered their class rings, planned the junior-Senior Prom and took part in the various activities in which Juniors are inter- ested. That is the future, let us .view the present and past. On September third you again entered the portals of St. Clairsville High School with a little self-assurance. VVe take it for granted that, like all F reshmen, you had none of this quality when you were in first year high. But now for a serious though. You have suc- ceeded in making a name for your class and all of us hope you will continue in the same direc- tion. You have shown your capability and wis- dom by your excellent choice of oIHcers and Stu- dent Council representatives. Maybe you havenit been the most important class or had the most important job, but without you, the machine would not work. How time does ily! So many things have happened since that terrible first day of school. I can still remember how scared and excited I was-running around like a beheaded chicken, trying to make sense from my schedule. But once I got used to the Whole set-up, high school's been loads of fun. It was positively thrilling when we had our own class election. There was so much chatter, I could hardly hear myself think. Then our ad- visors Miss Harrop, Mr. Holtsclaw, and Mr Ful- ton took charge and got the election started. When it was all over, I think everyone felt quite good about the results. I wonder who that anonymous reporter is that catches everything that is ever said or done by anyone. Such are the conversations that can be heard throughout the building each time a new issue of the Tigerag comes off the press. The Tigerag is our school paper, which is eagerly looked forward to each month by every pupil in the school. I The advisors for the paper this year were Mrs. Campbell and Miss Harris. Mrs. Campbell carried over from last year as advisor while Miss Harris became literary advisor. Through their cooperation and willingness to assist at all times the staff was able to overcome many obstacles and made this year's publication the 'best yet. WVhen the task of selecting an editor for our paper was set before us we decided upon a new plan. In the previous years we had only one editor. This year we decided on co-editors, that is, two editors working together. 'We chose Paul- ine Martin and Joyce Stephens as our editors. Pauline took over the sports and society section while Joyce was put in charge of special features. The initiative and efficiency of these two editors enabled our paper to contain some very good articles. WVe admire them greatly for being able to work together so very diligently and cooper- atively. After the editors were carefully chosen, the next thing in line was to select a staff of capable workers. A staff of approximately thirty-five members was soon selected and put to work. Anyone from Freshmen to Seniors inclusive was eligible to he on the staff. Rather than having department heads each individual was given a job of his own to do. YVith a careful selection of editors and staff members we were now ready to start in on our first issue of Tigerag. After the written features were handed in, most of the typing, stenciling, mimeographing, and stapling were done after school and during lunch hour. WVith the comple- tion of one issue, the staff members were already on the lookout for some little words or incidents that might make the next issue more interesting. The staff members proved their capabilities in this year's issues. The Tigerag is put out every third Thursday of the month making a total of nine publications during the school term. Various staff meetings were held during the vear at which any member had the opportunity to express what he thought could be done for the improvement of the paper. The paper profited much by these meetings. Various things were brought throughout the year for the school by the staff. These things in- cluded a clearoscope, stylus, lettering guides. and other various small items. At the end of the year the staff met to spend its hard earned money in the form of a party. The party proved to be as great a success as the paper itself. -.4....J....., a-J---- -,...f--- s. iii bebate lt seems that. although everyone likes a good argument, very few care to prove their pointg for the class in debate is rather small again this year. Under the capable instruction of Miss Lentz. this class has gained valuable experience from several practice debates with students from Flushing Iligh School. Perhaps in future years. when we have become the older generation. there may be a few among the eminent lawyers and statesmen of the day who will be able to look back in happy reminiscence on the time when thev were stu- dents in a debate class at St. Clairsville High School. and attribute some of their success to the instruction they received here. He is serving his first full year as school band director, having had a short period at Shawnee. Ohio before entering the Navy. The seventy piece hand has proven its ability by its performances during the intermissions at the football games, both at home and away. On various occasions white trousers were worn by the band members instead of the red ones, thus making the great variety of formations more attractive. Some of the many formations were: An illuminated starv while playing Stardustf' 'KA football while playing Football Herof' The State of Ohioi' while playing Beautiful Ohiof, A tepeei' while playing Ten Little Indians. 'KA heart while playing 'KLet Me Call You Sweetheartf, DAD,, for the Dads while playing For Heis a Jolly Good Fellowf, All marches and other music, which were played on the field, were memorized. On November the fifth, the girls and boys in the band donned their uniforms and did their part in getting the school band bond issue passed. They were excused from school in the morning and marched and played in various parts of the town. Other students accompanied the band carrying posters which represented the various points of the issue. The band members helped to raise money for the Band Mothers, Organization by selling tags on tag day and also by selling magazines. NVhen the magazine campaign ended, the names of those. who had sold five or more subscriptions. were put in a box and the person whose name was drawn received a radio. Martha Porterfield was the winner. Some of the social activities enjoyed by the band were a weiner roast held at the Belmont Hills Country Club at the end of the football bance Kane! Q14 aaa faeeaae 9 The vocal department in our school is an interesting one to follow. Each group is pictured in this annual according to its separate organi- zation. NVe have most of the advantages that any large school has, such as entering district audi- tions and often even state auditions. NVQ- have just this year resumed the Ohio Vallev Clinic, which this last Ft'l7l'llill'y was held in XVheeling. XVe sent thirty' girls and fifteen boys to sing under the direction of Noble Cain. a noted composer and arranger of choral music. The clinic was held for a whole afternoon and the students who went were greatly inspired. There are one hundred and fortv girls taking chorus this year. Their classes are on Xlonday. XVednc-sday and Friday each week for a forty- five minute period. The entire hovs' chorus consists of forty-five hoys. This chorus meets three days a week for a forty-five minute period. Both of these chor- uses perform once a year. in the annual concert. in which the entire department takes part. The girls' glee-club is chosen from the entire chorus. Sixtyeeight girls make up this cluh, which annually does a Christmas program, Ves- per Service, Spring Concert and Auditions. Regular practices for this organization are Klon- day evenings after school for more than an hour. Besides this there are extra practices as well as extra programs not mentioned. They also have extra performances and rehearsals. Most of their music is sacred while all other organizations sing hoth secular and sacred music. There has heen a girls' ensemhle in our high school for many years. This year there are nine girls, three on a part, and an accompanist. These girls sing in Spring Concert and Auditions and at many social functions in and around St. Clairs- ville. This ensemhle consists usuallv of juniors and seniors. Last year a mixed enseinhle of four girls and four boys was organized for auditions and the concert. This group proved to he successful and will continue. just this year another ensemhle has heen organized. ,X sophomore group. which is an advantage for the lower classmen. Our hoys' octet is a group similar to the older girls' ensemhle. These hoys do concert and audi- tion work as well as other social requests. These eight hoys and their accompanist are chosen from all four classes of high school. The choral department is under the direction of Miss Elizabeth Craft who has been here for several years. She works hard and does wonder- ful work. As a result of her patience and time. our school has a well known choral department. The students of this department have had good training in good secular and sacred music. Nlost of the music for performances is memorized. Kay! ctet lmit to right-Richard jenkins.
