Inigo Juan Gonzalez Bastida is 17 and came to St. Clair from Donostia, San Sebastian, Spain. He lives there with his parents, one brother Esteban, 22, and one sister Virginia, 23. While in St. Clair, he lives with Mr. and Mrs. Dudzinski. Inigo ' s hobbies are reading, music, skiing, and cycling. In America, he finds that people enjoy one sport, whereas in his country, people enjoy many sports. He finds that the main differences between America and Spain are the drinking age (there isn ' t one in Spain) and the driving age, which in Spain is 18. When Inigo returns to his country, he plans on majoring in economics.

As we look back on 1985, we see a year of personal, political, and athletic triumphs, medical miracles, and artistic achievements. We ' ve chosen a few that we think were some of the most noteworthy events of ' 85. 1. We start off with the Summer Olympics, hosted this year by Los Angeles. The stunning opening ceremonies were only a prelude to the total dominance by the United States of the Games. Capturing the most medals ever in the history of the Olympics, the U.S. put its Olympic heroes on the highest pedestal possible-such heroes as Carl Lewis, Bart Conner, and Greg Louganis. But the darling of the Olympics had to be 16 year old Mary Lou Retton who won the all around gold medal in womens ' gymnastics, a first for the United States. 2. In the movie industry, the years ' top honors go to 24 year old Prince Rogers Nelson. Prince wrote, produced, directed, starred in, and performed a 1 album and semi-autobiographical movie, Purple Rain . The movie and album grossed $100 million and made Prince the most popular performer of 1985. 3. The appointment of a female vice-presidential running mate was the most inspiring political and personal triumph of 1985. Geraldine Ferraro showed guts and determination and although she and Walter Mondale lost the election, her tradition-breaking appointment was a big step toward equality of men and women. 4. There have been, in 1985, an amazing number of medical breakthroughs. One of the most daring and yet promising are the artificial heart transplants. Medical pioneers such as Barney Clark, the first recipient, and William Shroeder who have had the air-driven hearts implanted, have brought a ray of hope to a world where heart disease is a leading killer. 5. This years ' surprise hit was Ghostbusters . The movie, starring Bill Murray, Dan Ackroyd, and Harold Ramis, grossed millions of dollars and the Ghostbuster craze took off. The logo was seen everywhere from t-shirts to tennis shoes and the popular phrase I ain ' t afraid of no ghost! was coined. 6. We can ' t forget the Tigers who were the heroes of the summer and gave everyone a reason to celebrate as they clinched the World Series title in a battle with the San Diego Padres. It had been 16 years since they had won a World Series and Detroit went wild with joy over it. Tiger fans showed their appreciation to their heroes with the Wave and the saying of the year, Bless You Boys!

Neighbors Gaby Harms, age 17, is from Hamburg, West Germany. She lives there in an apartment (shown) with her parents and her brother, Kay, age 19. During her stay in St. Clair she is living with Dave and Carol Sheets. Gaby has many hobbies, among these are knitting, reading, dancing, and basketball. What she likes most about America is the space; everyone has their own house and the schools have enough room for things like pools, football fields, and tennis courts. There are many differences between our country and Germany and Gaby lists some of these as the driving age (in Germany it ' s 18), the public transportation (in her country it ' s a much more popular way to get around), and the weather (not so many very warm or very cold days). When Gaby returns to Hamburg she has three more years of high school left to complete after which she will go on to study Foreign Languages. Roberto Buere Wazen Jr. is age 17 and came to St. Clair from Rio de Janiero, Brazil where he lives with his parents, his brother Fernando, 16, and his sister Ana Maria, age 21. During his stay here he lives with Willi Ebersole. Roberto ' s favorite hobby is soccer and he likes America for its technology advantage over Brazil. Roberto explains that the weather is the main difference between the U.S. and Brazil. When Roberto finishes high school he plans on going into agriculture. 7
