Madrigals 18 Chorus I Singing Under the Direction of Mrs. Hanick Who Joined Our Staff at S.C.H.S. This Year. Student Government The Faculty and students of SCHS have seen very strong leadership with many accomplishments. The Student Council has done many things for our school because of this strong concern and help. This year ' s Student Council was under the leader- ship of John Cosgrove, President; Dennis Rocker, Vice- President; Pat Schroeppel, Secretary; and Pat Kennedy, Treasurer. The method of selecting Student Government members was changed this year, making the group smaller and therefore more effective. The Govern- ment this year was also represented by the student body. Some of the accomplishments of the Student Government: - Instituted the Student- Teacher Forum - Installed a suggestion box for students and faculty - Purchased a cassette tape recorder - Participated in student- exchange programs with other schools - Improved communication with administration - Inaugurated monthly assembly programs - Increased scholarship fund - Decorated school for Christmas - Sponsored representatives to Boys ' State and Girls’ State - Were instrumental in having the National An- them played each morning - Created the very popular Happiness Awards - Purchased portable coat racks for the school - Clarified and u-dated the Student Government constitution; printed and distributed copies to the facul- ty administration, and Student Government members - Participated and supported the an- nual ALSAK March - Obtained a list of available empty rooms for group study Money for the a bove named were obtained by: - Magazine Sale - School T-Shirt sale - Dances - Chicken Dinners Debate 1970 The debate proposition of this year was; Resolve: That the federal government should establish, fi- nance, and administer programs to control air and water pollution in the United States. St. Clair again competed in the Blue Water De- bate League, and achieved a record of fourteen wins, and eight losses, tying with Memphis High School for fourth place. Our Affirmative team was Laurel Wisniewski and Carol Cress, and the Negative team was Renee Zac- harias and Mike Modin. Bob Currier was our Official timekeeper, and Mr. Vic Ruehle, our Judge. Romeo is Ready! Renee was awarded the top speaker trophy for St. Clair High School with 25 speaker points out of a possible 30. We of the Negative cannot, by any stretch of the imagination, accept your proposal. Hard work, many new acquaintances, and lots of fun was put into the yearbook. We ' ve worked with the support of the St. Clair County merchants, and other local organizations; and with this unified effort the Clairvo- yant Staff compiled a great 1971 yearbook. Our hope is that stu- dents will benefit fond memories and humor that was put into the yearbook. Remember, one only gets out of something what one puts in. BACK ROW: Brian Rutt, Steve Rouse, Geoff Dixon, Mark Tyler, Steve McClure, Mr. Francisco. Ski Club The Student Teacher Forum is something which has only recently been introduced to our school. It’s main purpose is to bring about better communi- cations between students and teachers. A goal which is being obtained. The meetings are held after school and are open to all faculty members and the student body. Dennis Rocker presides over the forum. The meetings are informal and all who attend have an opportunity to express their opinions. Different topics concerning the school are brought up and then discussed in the hope that possible solutions will come about. Some of the topics dis- cussed have been: smoking on school grounds; punishments for a variety of offenses; kissy-face in the cafeteria, the cafeteria in general suggestions from the suggestion box and the pressing issue of modular scheduling. It is the hope of those who have attended that the forum will be continued. Linda Zimmer 1955-1971 We dedicate this page in memory of Linda Zimmer who complet- ed her freshman year and part of her sophomore year at St. Clair High School. She was on the honor roll during these two years. She was bom on July 30, 1955, and lived at 3050 Allington Road in St. Clair. It is a race over a course 1 1 2 to 3 miles in length. The SCAL specifies that the course be approximately 2 1 2 miles in length. Reverse scoring is used in a meet. That is, if you finish 1st you get one point, 2nd place is worth two points, etc. , with the team having the lowest point total declared the winner. Our league record was 2 wins and 4 losses good for sixth place and we finished in fourth place in the county meet. Ron Cook was placed on the first team all-league by virtue of his 4th place finish in the county, while Joe Ma- loney made the second team all-league finishing 10th in the county.
