Ski Club DEBATE SEASON DRAWS TO A CLOSE On Tuesday afternoon, the Blue Water Area Debate League met at St. Clair High School for the final round of the season. The topic for debate this year was Re- solved: that Congress should prohibit unilateral. United States Military Intervention in foreign countries. At a gathering in one of the school’s lecture rooms, Mr. Charles Lutz and Mr. Richard Hill presented awards to the Top Speakers of each team and the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place teams. The honor of 1st place for the third consecutive year went to Romeo High School. Their teams were feared by the rest of the League this year, as they came away with a perfect record of 22 wins and no losses. The second place team didn’t have far to walk to put the trophy in their showcase, as the presen- tation was held in their own school. The St. Clair squad finished strongly, with an 18 and 4 record. The 3rd place trophy went to a very deserving Richmond team, which finished with a 17 and 5 record. In a debate round, each speaker can receive a max- imum of 30 points. Awards were presented to the indi- vidual on each team who was the best speaker through- out the season, on the basis of point averages. Twelve people received awards. Their names, point averages, and schools are: Donna Campbell, 28, Romeo; Diane Dubravetz, 24, St. Clair; Robert Enright, 24, Richmond; Randy Norton, 20, Yale; Judy Keener, 19, Marysville; Kathy Calabro, 20, Port Huron Northern; Ken Bernardo, 20, Cros-Lex; Sharon Rosswarm, 19, Port Huron; Cliff Ditchfield, 18, Marine City; Kathy Groskey, 21, Anchor Bay; and Cindy Laine, 15, Imlay City. Each homeroom has one regular representative and one alternate in the Student Council. The Student Council undertakes projects each year. The main project for the 1969-1970 year was securing financial assistance for the school ' s Wrestling Team. The Council also sends a student to Boys ' State and Girls ' State, and has been represented in the St. Clair Area League Association of Student Councils. 92 The Paper Due to the fact that many people worked hard (and we also had a little extra money) The Paper took on a new form. The Paper graduated from the run-it-off- and- staple- it- together” method to the more sophisticated ”tape-it- together- and- send-it- to- Thorpe’s” method. Those Paper staff members who contributed much time and effort to make a student publication possible are: Katie Maloney (Expediter- first- class), Pat Kennedy (famous for her humorous interpretations of the holidays), Paul Heydens and Jill Downey (Music Editors), Don Barnum (Sports Editor), Joe Maloney (Sports Staff), Jon Petoskey and Lynn McQueary (Feature Writers), Mr. Mallwitz (Scapegoat), and all the ’’Roving Reporters” (who are usually impossible to find). Since our list of credits would go on forever, it will end with The Creator who made the whole thing possible. FRONT: J. Maloney, K. Maloney, B. Barnum. STANDING: D. Huffmaster, P. Coleman, J.
