Dear Friends, Remember the fun that we had in in the school year of 1962-63? Well, we ' re here to refresh your memory! Let’s turn the clock back to the very first day, September 4, 1962... Recall that bewildering moment when you arrived at school with a gigantic stack of books, and no place to turn? The rest of the week was just as frustrating! So, here are the high, and hi- larious, points of the year as re- corded in our diary: First day: We met Benita Mathilde Elisabeth von Bonin; called ’’ Bennie -Ba be; ” our exchange student from Harderwyken- burg, Leer, West Germany. She was born on September 17, 1944 in Geiglitz, Pomerania. In 1945, the family fled to West Germany where her father works as a merchant of lumber. 2 ’’Benny ' s extra leg”

Clairvoyant St. Cl air Higfi ScHool 1963 1863 Over one hundred years ago, in 1858, the Little Red School House, known officially as the St. Clair Public School, was opened at the corner of Third and Mulberry Streets. In 1863 a high school building was built where the intermediate school now stands. It ac- commodated five hundred students, and it cost about six thousand dollars. The Second Ward School was built in 1880 to house the growing student population. It was there, in 1887, that the American flag was flown for what is believed to be the first time over any school in the United States. 1880 By the time a new high school was built in 1922 at a cost of over $325,000 it was desper- ately needed. The building is now being used as an intermediate school. The year 1961 was an important one for our district. In the early part of the year the St. Clair School District voted to become a part of the East China School District, and in November of the same year, our new high school, which cost over one million dollars was dedicated. Our district has increased in size and population, but our goals remain the same as those of the first class to graduate from the Little Red School so long ago. We want to work hard, play hard, and be proud of our school. 1922 1961
