We were wondering, perhaps, if we would ever achieve the esteem of the preceding graduates of this, our Alma Mater. Highlighting our sophomore year were such things as selecting our class officers, colors, and motto, but the big project of the entire year was our very successful magazine campaign. Our junior year brought us our cherished class rings and the Junior Prom, which left us in ecstasy over a Roman Holiday . Now in our senior year we remember all of 22 into the success of doing. the things we accomplished during the time spent at S,C.A,H.S, We are kept busy with work for the Clairian and with preparations for the Senior Hop. Before long commencement will be here and we will leave these familiar surroundings and go out to make a future for ourselves. We would like to thank our class advisors who helped us accomplish all that we have in the past four years. Without them most of our fond- est dreams would not have been fulfilled. To our advisors, our teachers, and our class- mates with whom we have spent our last four years, we extend our deepest gratitude. East Norwegian Mary Ann G. Suzanne Macola We, the class of 1964, were organized under the guidance of Miss Francks and Mr. Gondorchin in our sophomore year. We began immediately to prepare for our senior year by having a magazine campaign which proved very successful. To further increase our treas- ury, we also sold stationery in the spring of our sophomore year and this was our last project as sophomores. During our sophomore year we selected our class colors, flower, and motto. Our junior year proved to be even more demanding than our sophomore year, not only academically, but in extra-curricular activities as well. As juniors, we started off by electing new officers for our junior year and we also received a new class advisor, Mr. Kubeika, who replaced Mr. Gondorchin who left at the end of last year, So for this year we have had many worthy projects such as another maga- zine campaign, a dance, and soap sale. Among the extracurricular activities was our school newspaper, the Courier, of which we are very proud. We are now planning for our last achieve- ment of our junior year which will mark the beginning of our reign as seniors-the Junior Prom. This year will pass too quickly for many of us, and we will go into our senior year with the determination needed to fill all our expec- tations and hopes in our senior year. THIRD ROW: The i962 edition of the Saint Clair Area Joint High School football team produced a rec- ord of 4 wins, 4 losses and l tie, Our team received a stunning upset from powerful Mahonoy Area in the first game of the season by the score of 27 to 7. Our only score came in the second period when Holobetz scored from the six-inch line. The next week the team bounced back and won over Blue Mountain 20 ro 7. This win was accomplished mainly through the efforts of Dan Harrison and Joe Semanco. The Saints again seemed to have met their match against Frackville, when at the half the Frackville squad was leading by a score of l3 to O. But in the third quarter speedy Mike Holobetz intercepted a pass on their I9-yard line and ran 8l yards for the score. ln the fourth quarter the Saints were on the move and again Holobetz ran for the scare and the game ended T3 to l3. 92 Mr. Wolff, J. The team then encountered the Schuylkill Haven outfit. There was no scoring by either team in the first half and the teams seemed to be evenly matched, but in the third quarter the Saints pulled out all the stops and beat the Havenites 32 to 0, At Kulpmont, with Holobetz at the controls, the Saints again went on to another impressive 'win. This time the score was 34 to 0, Ashland was the next victim for the rampag- ing Saints as they fell prey 58 to O. We dropped the remaining two games, one against Minersville l3 to 0-we were hoping to beat them three years in a row-and the other against Tamaqua, the Conference Champions, 44 to 19. K 4. Saint Clair defeated Frockville by one point for their first league win of the season. This game proved to be a real thriller since we were down by 13 points at the half. ln the next game against Ashland the Saints pulled off a 63-58 victory over a highly rated Ashland five. The battle for the top spot in the North Schuylkill League between Saint Clair and Maho- noy Area was decided in Mahanoy's favor. The final tally read Saint Clair 38, Mahanoy Area 49. Shenandoah tried to remove the Saints from second place, but to no avail. The Saints won' it 61-57 with Dan Harrison picking up the scoring honors. At Kulpmont the Wildcats were completely baffled by the Saints full court press and the Saints scored another victory to take second place in the first half of the North Schuylkill League race. The team started the second half off with another hard fought victory over Frackville. Then the Saints began to falter and they dropped the next three league games to Ashland, Mahanoy Area, and Mount Carmel. In Shenandoah it was a different story, the Saints defeated the Blue Devils 85-78. Mike Holo- betz paced the Saints' attack with 24 points fol- lowed by Honicker with 23. The lost regular game of the season ended on a note of victory. The Saints handed Kulpmont a 63 to 54 setback. Saint Clair's two victories over Frackville qualified them to enter the Class B playoffs. The first game against Nesquehoning proved to be an easy victory. The Saints employed the use of the fast break and the full court press to overcome the Warriors. Harrison was high with 18, followed by Holobetz and Honicker with l7 and l6 respectively. The following game for the District Xl Class B championship at Harrisburg was against Foun- tain Hill, The Saints gave all they had in this one but it was not sufficient to overcome the fourth period surge of Fountain Hill. The final score read Fountain Hill 67 and the Saints 61. 95 BASKETBALL HIGHLIGHTS Sedlock Takes the Tap Harrison With a Jump Shot Easy Loy-Up Holobetz Makes c Crucial Pass JUNIOR VARSITY BASKETBALL TEAM FIRST ROW Left to Right: John Wapinsky, John Kessock, Michael Swartchick, Richard Stobingos Frank Crompton Jeffrey Balkavich, Thomas Moore, Charles Shorockman, John ,lahn Lutzknnin, Samuel Kanish, Kenneth Moyers Holden SECOND ROW: George Cheripka, George Bell, VARSITY SCHEDULE Schuylkill Haven 42 89 Kulpmont Schuylkill Haven 46 8l Frackville Minersville 70 7l Ashland Frackville 47 80 Minersville Ashland 58 57 Mohonoy Area Pine Grove 62 42 Coal Township Pine Grove 62 85 Tri Valley Mahanoy Area 49 50 Mount Carmel Tremont 52 85 Shenandoah Coal Township 86 63 Kulpmont Mount Carmel 43 7I Nesquehoning Shenandoah 57 61 Fountain Hill JUNIOR VARSITY SCHEDULE Schuylkill Haven 52 45 Shenandoah Schuylkill Haven 34 67 Kulpmont Minersville 50 62 Frackville Frackville 64 51 Ashland Ashland 64 30 Minersville Pine Grove 52 33 Mahanoy Area Pine Grave 38 4I Coal Twp.
