Our success as builders both in the pres- ent and in the post-war world will depend largely upon our ability to conscientiously amflll and effectively employ the funda- mental principles of democracy. Millions of our fellow-citizens are now lighting against the forces which would destroy those principles and the institutions which exemplify them. While they offer them- selves as sacrifices to preserve our insti- tutions and our way of life, we should dedicate ourselves to the task of preserv- ing and strengthening those qualities of good citizenship which effective democracy demands.
