Unlike most libraries, the J .F.K. Center is a resource library where you can find excellent informa- tion about our former President, John F. Kennedy, in films, documents and pictures. We found it to be a very interesting and fun learning experience. I'm looking forward to my next trip to their marvelous research center of American History. IntraMurals For the first time St. Charles held intramurals between the 7th, 8th and 9th grades. In the first game players from 7A and 7B entered the court with 7A in the end as the winners. Then came 8A and 8B with 8B as the winners, 8B versus the 9th grade with a victorious 9th grade. Finally, the grand finale - 7A versus 9th grade from which the 9th grade came out number one. They were awarded a trophy which they keep in their homeroom and I'm sure they are very proud of this award. I hope that intramurals in St. Charles will become an annual event. Engineers This year the Junior High was visited by an engineer who worked for the telephone company. The purpose of her visit was to broaden our alternatives in choosing a career. She explained some of the things she does and enjoys doing in her work. A film was shown about the different types of engineering and what has been done up to date in this field. Maybe someone will choose this direction for his! her future. All-in-all I feel it was a worthwhile program. Bonnie Lacerda 9 EASTER PARADE OF FASHIONS On April lst, the St. Charles Parents Club sponsored the 4th annual fashion show. Fashions were provided by T.J. Maxx of Bedford. Mrs. Cathy Trowbridge was the Master of Ceremonies for the evening. The School has was decorated with Spring-like ornaments. The clothes ranged from beachwear, to sportswear, to dress-up fashions. There were 6 eight grade participants, Chris Trowbridge, Bonnie Lacerda, Debbie Chamberlain, Johanne Scanlan, Chris Lopolito, and Michele Costa. Refreshments were served after the show. A special thanks to the Parents Club for a wonderful show. 10 PRA YER FOR GUIDANCE O Lord, Give me what it takes to be a holy youth .... Give me courage to do what is hardg courage to say no to sing courage to hold off the quitter in me. Give me a clean mind and clean speech, clean eyes and clean hands. Let me cherish cleanliness, and recognize that it brings happiness. Let me appreciate that in all purity, good things grow. Give me a gift for kindness, so I may never hurt another youth. Teach me to control my temper and my tongue, so they do not become instruments of cruelty. I know my own importance, Lord, but let me never fail to see that others have importance too. Give me strength of spirit, to defeat self-pity. If I am lonesome, lead me to the knowledge that to be loved I must be lovableg that I will have no real friends until I earn them. Give me that bigness spirit that I will need to be cheerfully obedient. Remove from my personality a sullen spirit. Teach me to take orders, so that some day I will know how to give them reasonably. Give me zest and drive to conquer laziness. Never let me feel that I can be served without serving, or get without giving. Instruct my heart in the love of work, so I may know the joy of rest. Give me that peace of mind which comes from knowing that I will never lead another to sin. By your grace, may no one be cheapened because he kept my company and may no one love just me for myself. Let all who love, learn to love you more. Give me finally, such brightness, laughter, and grace. that you will find me a temple of which you may be pleased as you were pleased with Mary. We are celebrating this party at the Royal Hawaiian, Mrs. Labillois' new restaurant. Sitting on either side of Mrs. Labillois are her quadruplets, Sean, Tom, Phil and John Cwhere did she get those names?!j Speaking of the boys, three of them are famous now, Sean, Tom and John. Of the three, Sean holds the most prestigous position, he is Pope Pablo I, land probably the last.J Unfor- tunately, he messed up the boy! girl seating arrangement, by not bringing a date. Meanwhile, Tom has become the new 7 foot, 5 inch star of the NBA. Last but not least is John Galipeau, the world's famous doctor, who discovered a cure for cancer. What happened to Phil? He is still in the old 9th grade waiting for his brother and sister so he can go to the library. Getting up to talk is, surprisingly enough, Linda Steeves, she has recently become one of the most famous public speakers in the country. She owes it all to Sr. Marie Paula. Over to the right, are, as usual, Mother Claudia Gulla and Mother Christine McNeill, both of Dor- chester. They go around the neighborhoods picking up trash and helping others. Jeanine Mecherkany comes roaring in on her motorcycle, now the new Evil Knievil. She has now broken a world record by jumping over a number of cars. Over by Claud and Chris, is Suzanne Kerrigan, who is now the host of the T.V. game show, Family Fued. She became the star of the show because of her experience of growing up as the oldest in a family of seven children. Over to the far right are, of course, Erin and Ellen. They have gone into the wrestling business as partners. They are the World Champs - Muscles Mulrenan and The Gopher. They got their experience from beating on the 9th grade boys. Opposing Ellen and Erin are the widely renowned, Dianne Dewar and Nancy Spolidoro. They've been practicing for a final fight that will decide who is the best wrestling team. They've decided to fight because of all the times Nancy has called Ellen vicious, Last but not least, are Kathy and Tina. They are still talking to Mr. McHugh, which they practiced doing during our old, but good, Science classes. Well, everyone is leaving now, so we will look forward to our 50th reunion. 26 LAST WILL and TES TAMEN T As we leave these hallowed walls, we would each like to leave behind something of ourselves. THE CR USADERS The St. Charles Crusaders had a great year, with a 10-5 record. The captains, Ray Polito and Kevin Meaney, led the team through the season. Eddie Hatch, Joe McCool, Matt Staffier and Steven Shaunessy showed strong ability and dedication where it was needed. Jon Palermo, David Palmer, Jimmy Galipeau, John Claffy and Dave McCool showed great promise for the next year's team, and to them we wish the best of luck. During the season, the team proved to be a strong team, losing games by narrow margins. The team proved to be an exciting one by winning most of the games that were needed to be won. The playoffs came around and we played Bishop Cheverus first, We won 31-30 with Kevin Meaney scoring the winning foul shot. We then went on to play St. Raphael's. At the final seconds of the game a technical given to the opposing team gave us a chance. Ray Polito swished the technical in to send the game into overtime. Unfortunately the team lost, thus winning 2nd place in the playoffs, but it was an exciting game and an exciting year. 28 ki Qs Q ,E N 5 X aff 3' as x 'dh i 3 Qi YYY 2,3 ?x'K 3 5 13 , ff 4 i Cheerleaders - Front Row lleft to rightl Cheryl Chamberlain, Kim Coakley, Julie Mulrenan. St. CHARLES CHEERLEADERS The St. Charles Crusaders were led to 2nd place in the league by the support of the St. Charles Cheerleaders. Like the boys, the girls did a wonderful job in putting the spirit of our school at it's highest point. The squad was made up of 17 junior high girls and 3 mascots. The mascots were Julie Mulrenan and Kim Coakley, both of the 4th grade, and Cheryl Chamberlain, who is in the 3rd grade. Part of the squad was made up of a captain, and 2 co-captains. The captain was Ellen Mulrenan, and the 2 co-captains were Christina Ganley and Tina Wing. The following girls made up the squad, Debbie Chamberlain, Michele Costa, and Kim Paste from the 8th grade. Kerri Boback, Candy Coakley, Susannah Collins, Roselyn Tayag, Jennifer McCor- mick and Kathy Walsh from the 7th grade. And last but not least the 9th grade, who were in there last year cheering at St. Charles, were Nancy Spolidoro, Dianne Dewar, Kathy Spinale, Linda Steeves and Erin McDonough. The girls worked very hard and diligently during the days leading up to the competition. It payed off, though, because we came in lst place in the cheering competition, where we com- peted against 4 other squads. We didn't work by ourselves, though, we had the enthusiasm of the students of St. Charles, and teachers who built up our confidence to put us on the top! We had the help of our advisor, Mrs. LaBillois, who has helped us greatly for the past 4 years. Mrs. LaBillois's assistant was Maureen Mulrenan, who cheered at St. Charles for 2 years, then coached the girls for 2 years. The girls who cheered for 3 years were Tina, Ellen, Nancy and Linda. For 2 years were Dianne, Erin, Debbie, and Michele, and for 1 year were Kathy, Kim, Kerri, Candy, Susan- nah, Kathy W., Jennifer, Christine and Rose. Thanks for a great year girls! 30 CS'eomM-'L WWPQPQTKQYWW mmm '00J'9g'M . Q X? .
