Sophs float to 1st place This year brought a lot of new experiences to the class of '80. One was the construction of their first class float. When word of the upcoming competition finally got to the sophomores, they had less than a week to plan and build their float. When the plans for the float were finally finished, there were only four nights left to build it - the first of which was spent trying to find a hay wagon to build the float on. When they located one, they all piled into the back of a pick-up truck and set out to try to find the farm. The nights that followed had a lot of problems: like how to hide the float from the other classes, and just how to make a cloud out of a hay wagon. Once they got going, it really wasn't as hard as they thought it would be. The float, finally finished the night before the parade, was ready to roll down Main Street. The sophomores must have done something right. Their entry of a Saint football player floating on a cloud placed first in the Homecoming class float competition, beating all the other classes. And that's not bad for a first attempt! 1' ', -, to 'f ff a ....,.... 9' Saint Martha Daly rides the first place sophomore float in the Homecoming parade. 85 3.l0lLl0lld0S

amtuoudog Classes keep sophomores busy, busy, busy . . . The beginning of the school year brought confusion, excitement, and a little bit of fear among the sophomores. The combination of a new school, first year of high school, and self-scheduling are enough to bring on any of the feelings mentioned above. But things weren't always that bad. They began to settle down as the year wore on. Sophomores almost looked forward to going to class. Especially the electives sophs had to choose from like geometry and chemistry, two of the more popular electives this year. And then there were the required classes like swimming C'What am I going to do with my hair? l, or Comp. Skills C'Another spelling test? l All in all, it was a pretty good year, and one that the sophs won't soon forget. But there were lots of things you could have been doing besides sitting home watching T.V. A lot of kids went to Mac's for a quarter pounder, coke and fries after taking in a flick at the Arcada or Foxfield. Another popular way to spend the evening tas well as your moneyl was going over to the bowling alley to bowl a few games. After that, pizzas from Mr. Tom's were next on the agenda. Another thing to do was shopping. If you wanted a good selection of things to buy, you went overto Fox Valley in Aurora. There are a lot of things to see there, and it's much better than sitting at home. During the school year, there wasn't much spare time, but the time STC students did have was spent doing lots of exciting things.
