amtuoudog Classes keep sophomores busy, busy, busy . . . The beginning of the school year brought confusion, excitement, and a little bit of fear among the sophomores. The combination of a new school, first year of high school, and self-scheduling are enough to bring on any of the feelings mentioned above. But things weren't always that bad. They began to settle down as the year wore on. Sophomores almost looked forward to going to class. Especially the electives sophs had to choose from like geometry and chemistry, two of the more popular electives this year. And then there were the required classes like swimming C'What am I going to do with my hair? l, or Comp. Skills C'Another spelling test? l All in all, it was a pretty good year, and one that the sophs won't soon forget. Drill team's enthusiasm keeps up Saint spirit The drill team consists of sophomores, juniors, and seniors who tried out back in May of '77. The squad split up over the summer and went to different drill team camps to get ideas for routines. Illinois Weslyan University and Aurora College were the main camps visted over the summer. As the season opened, the drill team marched with the band at the pre-game performances and during the half-time activities. During Homecoming, the drill team marched through the rain up main street to Reid Field where they participated in the pep assembly with the rest of the school. As the basketball season came around, the drill team performed at half-time to the tunes of lt's a Miracle , Rocky and others, as they entertained students, parents, and STC fans. During the year, they sold candy to raise money for new uniforms, and this year's competition. They also decorated halls and lockers before the games with the pep club. The drill team proved to be a big boost to the spirit and fun at St. Charles High. Drill team members perform at Northwestern University on Band Day in September. amwoudog

Sophs float to 1st place This year brought a lot of new experiences to the class of '80. One was the construction of their first class float. When word of the upcoming competition finally got to the sophomores, they had less than a week to plan and build their float. When the plans for the float were finally finished, there were only four nights left to build it - the first of which was spent trying to find a hay wagon to build the float on. When they located one, they all piled into the back of a pick-up truck and set out to try to find the farm. The nights that followed had a lot of problems: like how to hide the float from the other classes, and just how to make a cloud out of a hay wagon. Once they got going, it really wasn't as hard as they thought it would be. The float, finally finished the night before the parade, was ready to roll down Main Street. The sophomores must have done something right. Their entry of a Saint football player floating on a cloud placed first in the Homecoming class float competition, beating all the other classes. And that's not bad for a first attempt! 1' ', -, to 'f ff a ....,.... 9' Saint Martha Daly rides the first place sophomore float in the Homecoming parade. 85 3.l0lLl0lld0S
