People having just an apple or a cup of yogurt for lunch became a familiar sight in the commons, as more and more people joined the crowd of STC dieters. Liquid protein diets became a fad among the weight Iifters and other athletes this year. More common ways to lose weight were by starving yourself for as long as possible, or by going on a liquid diet. The liquid diet is when you don't take in any solids at all, and you live on liquids only. Diets were around all year, except on Friday night trips to McDonald's, or those New Year's Eve parties. l l'll start my diet on Saturday. l Exercise was a big help to those trying to lose weight, and gym class was one good way to burn off a little unwanted fat. The Rec Center swimming pool, racquetball, tennis, and weight room all provided methods of controlling weight. Saints will rock you! We Will Rock You, a popular rock song by Queen, was transformed into an even more popular cheer at STC. This was the chant that brought Saints fans back into the spirit that was lacking for a while. Although students were basically uninvolved in school activities at the beginning of the year, as the year went on, STC students began participating in school events and clubs. The first pep assembly in the new gym helped spirits rise, and then the feeling of togetherness started growing. With cries of, We're number one! Saints fans tried to raise the roof off the gym during pep assemblies. Clubs worked on events to make St. Charles a more spirited school, and the bleachers were finally filled at the games. Pep Club decorated the commons and halls with orange and black streamers and posters, and soon the pride that was missing began to develop into the pride and spirit that STC is known for.
