Graduation 1978: The end of a beginning Graduation is a lot more than a cap, gown, and a diploma. lt is one more phase of life that starts a new beginning forthese students while at the same time is a sad ending of the past years. The 1978 graduating class was the first to graduate from the new high school. With this honor came mixed emotions. Thompson High had been home and a lot of seniors wanted to graduate from the school that they had spent two memorable years attending. But, of course, it was a milestone to be the first ones to exit out of the new school. Graduation takes one night to complete but many students start celebrating a week before, and on the big night, some of the seniors are not sure if they're coming or going. It takes the senior class a week to practice in order to walk up and receive a diploma, and they are graduating? Some graduates will go right to work while others will brave another four or more years at a college of their choice. But, one thing is for sure, the Class of 78 will not quit when the roads get rough. For those who have made it through the past twelve years of school we say Congratulations! You have left memories and achievements for the up-coming classes to strive toward. Above right: Cindy Belles, 1978 Valedictorian, receives her award from Principal Wayne French. Over 2000 of them. Everywhere -- at McDonald's, in the Commons, at the various games, in the halls, at the Keg, at clusters of lockers, at the drive-in, at the new Foxfield Theater, at work. Many faces in many places. Teachers as well as students participating in pep assemblies, the Donkey Basketballl Game, and the Student-Faculty All Star Game. Students spent more time going to and from school, either in buses or in some very cozy cars. Any problem was blamed on the little freshmen and seniors became restless before spring fever set in. Some people spent time getting small with Steve Martin while others learned to disco to the many Bee Gee hits that were popular from Saturday Night Fever. But then people will be people . . . get Y 5:3 wir: ,E-i':5g3:fiSf' . 1 , .... ,...,t .sq '- Q.. . if-f1'fw
