Under the first-year direction of varsity coach Bonny Hajek and JV coach Rebecca Hankin, the spikers abruptly dropped six straight games before beating rival Geneva. The Saints' varsity triumphed 20-13 and 20-13, while the JV's rallied to win 20-8 and 20-9. However, the Saints' varsity squad ended the year with an 0-10 Upstate Eight Conference record and a 1-16 overall mark. The JV's were a little better, finishing 0-10 in the UEC and 2-15 overall. St. Charles lost to Wheaton North 20-7 and 20-6 at the Wheaton-Warrenville sub-sectional to complete its rough season. The seniors who proudly ended their careers at St. Charles included Debbie Bednarz, Beth Janas, Re Matalonis, Julie Payne, and Molly Peddv Varsity volleyball. Girls' tennis takes 4th in conference Although completing the season 4-3-1 overall, the girls' tennis team ended up with a 1-3-1 record and 18V2 points in the Upstate Eight Conference for fourth place behind champion West Aurora with 45 points. The first doubles team of Damaris Sufalko and Sue Sanborn captured fourth place in the UEC meet while first singles player Caroline Carlson was eliminated in the second round. Carlson, however, took first in first singles action earlier in the season at the St. Charles Invitational.
