Stacks ot boxes, protestors initiate new building Although thoughts of the new St. Charles High School brought many fears and doubts, students left summer activities like Hpool hopping!! and tooling Main Street and lVlacls and proceeded to school. Along with the change in school buildings came so many other changes that students finally realized the freedom of the old Thompson High School was gone and that this was indeed a new beginning. When students entered the building for the first time in September, many things were still unfinished. The resource center, music rooms, and the reading lab tupper leftl were uncompleted until November. The attendance system was not decided upon immediately and when it was, some students were unhappy because it required many more visits to the dean's office flower leftl. Self-scheduling remained the same and students shared their schedules fupper rightl hoping to have classes at least in the same direction as a friend. i ,, ,rr ,,, r if in T WWE

Limited parking, closed campus, the increase in suspensions, and the return of detentions upset many students to the point of causing a student walk-out. Assistant Principal Mr. J. Bannon talked to students during the walk-out flower leftj trying to get them to return to classes, but eventually over 100 of the participants were suspended. Jammed lockers, lack of windows, bulletin boards, and all the other changes which took place did little to alter many students' lackadaisical attitude displayed in study hall in the west commons by senior Dee Dorney fbelowj. 37 11
