rorunr STC: button-pushin' crazy lNV, log, 0 through 9, these are all part ofthe calculator. During the past years, calculators became a familiar sight at STC. Calculators were an easy way to speed up workin school. In science or math class, it was a sure bet that someone had a calculator with them. Some people owned expensive calculators with so many buttons, one needed a four-man-team just to use them. Others had your basic calculators used to add, subtract, multiply and divide. Calculators were carried in everything from a box to a blue jean case. People kept them in their lockers, purses, and even a few 'brains' kept them attached to their belt loops. Saints 'rock' at concerts The lights dimmed. A sudden hush came over the crowd. A voice, seemingly out of nowhere, was heard. Ladies and gentlemen . . . CHICAGO! To many STC students this experience was a reality. Concerts at the Chicago Stadium or Alpine Valley in Wisconsin, were visited frequently by St. Charles music fans. Chicago, Foghat, Genesis, Bob Seeger, and Ted Nugent were just a few of the groups that played in Chicago this year. Eric Clapton was another star that played in Chicago in 1978. His new album, Slow Hand had just come out, and he was in Chicago on tour promoting it. Most students who saw Clapton in concert really enjoyed it, and rated it as, excellent Transportation once again proved to be a problem for the sophomore and freshman music fans. But, older brothers and sisters and older friends helped in solving the problem. Everyone was able to enjoy the excitement and fun of going to a live concert. . Lf. - Y .. ,. f I ID fig? Fleetwood Mac . The '77-78 school year was a good one for music. Fleetwood Mac, Ted Nugent, and Foghat topped the list of popular albums this year. Steve Martin's t'Let's Get Small comedy album was another hit at STC. No one will forget his Smoking sketch, t'lHey, mind if I SMOKE'?'t7 or his famous HEXCUSE ME!! line which were both on the album. The biggest selling album of the year was Fleetwood Mac's Rumors Songs like Second Hand News and Don't Stop entertained STC students at Keg and at home. Along with albums, came the necessity to buy a stereo. Headphones became an important part of the stereo, as parents continually screamed, Please, turn down that NOlSE!! But, whether it was Steve Miller Band's Book of Dreams or a commercial-free hour on WKQX radio, the reply was always the same. That's not noise, Mom. That's MUSIC.
