Instead of allowing him to gradu- ate with his classmates this year, God initiated him into the joys of eternal lite in an Eternal Commencement. As a result of the inroads ot a malignant bone cancer, Bi1l's right arm was amputated in March, 1958. With typical uncomplaining cour- age, he returned to school and took up the burden of re-learning skills which he had previously mastered. Despite his handicap, he took part in all the religious, athletic, and social events sponsored by St. Cecilia High School and maintained a cheerful outlook even during his many days of pain and suffering. The resignation with which he met his death will be an inspiration to those of us who cherish his memory. ' -7.- i HIS EXCELLENCY The Most Reverend Iames V. Casey, D. D. Bishop of Lincoln We express our thanks and gratitude to our bishop Whose achievements for the spiritual Welfare of his flock have been unceasing. HIS HOLINESS POPE IOHN XXIII In the words of St. Paul, our new reigning Pontiff encour- ages us to: Owe no man any- thing except to love one an- otherg for he Who loves his neighbor has fulfilled the law. fRomans, l3, 87 111uuiiurmv1aw,xs..1l.uanx J:f.i,Q.,.v- . . I GUR BELGVED PRIESTS Unless the Lord build the house, they labor in vain that build it. Rt. Rev. Monsignor M. C. Grogan, V.F. Pastor and Superintendent HIS MESSAGE Public opinion acclaims the outstanding or sensational accomplishment, yet, is it not a fact that doing little things Well can be considered an outstanding achieve- ment? Certainly, for the Catholic the small things can be made worthwhile when all are united in the prayer of the Morning Offering. Graduates of l959, do the small things well along the road ot life by uniting them in one daily act of dedication to the Sacred Heart and, thus, you will accomplish the greatest of all achievements, the salvation of your immortal souls. These words spoken by Father Rawley Myers led the student body to a consid- eration of the possibilities for sanctity which lay in their future lives. In pointing out the many pitfalls th at ensnare youthful souls, Father urged the pupils to take advantage of the two days of special grace in order that they might be better prepared to avoid any offense against Almighty God. Thank you, Father, for the chance to do some spiritual overhauling. Rev. The final sum- mary Was Wins-6, Losses-4. Highlights of the season were the clobbering of St. Bonaventure, 32- 65 a n d Meisy's four-touchdown stampede against Sacred Heart. Paul Messing, our bruising tackler, received honorable mention for the all-state Class C team. BASKETBALL ROUNDUP! The l958-59 basketball squad, coached by lim Biglin, came through with another fine season. A lot of big things happened this year: the Winning of the Catholic Tournament, loss of our first game in our own gym in three years, sec- ond straight year of going to State, and Bill Meisenbach's selection for All-State Class C. This was the third straight year a St. Cecilia player earned this coveted honor. , Our biggest victories of the year were the beating of David City, St. Mary's in the Diocesan finalsg the revenge against Harvard in the dis- trict finalsg and the blasting of Alma in the -playoff for the State berth. From the varsity team that finished the season only four will graduate. Biue Alma f in the Class being dead.
