Wiki? A FATHER'S PRAYER: GBUILD ME A SON' Build me a son, O Lord, who will be strong enough to know when he is weak, and brave enough to face himself when he is afraid, one who will be proud and unbending in honest defeat, and humble and gentle in victory. 5'Build me a son whose wishes will not take the place of deeds, a son who will know Thee- and that to know himself is the foundation stone of knowledge. 'lead him, I pray, not in the path of ease and comfort, but under the stress and spur of difficulties and challenge. Here let him learn to stand up in the storm here let him learn compassion for those who fail. Build me a son whose heart will be clear, whose goal will be high, a son who will master himself before he seeks to master other men, one who will reach into the future, yet never forget the past. And after all these things are his, add, I pray, enough of a sense of humor, so that he may always be serious, yet never take himself too seriously. Give him humility, so that he may always remember the simplicity of true greatness, the open mind of true wisdom. and the meekness of true strength. Then I, his father, will dare to whisper, 'I have not lived in vain. ' By Gen. Douglas MacArthur 44444

DEDICA TION MR. RESTA BANDMAS T ER The 1970 Yearbook is dedicated to Mr. Robert Resta, Band Director of the School Band since 1941. Chief Warrant Officer Resta retired from the Army in 1955 after serving at various Army Posts including the U. S. Army Music School for over a period of twenty-five years. A graduate of the JULLIARD School of Music in 1913, Mr. Resta entered the army at the age of seventeen. During his career he has worked with many famous ar- tists including Luratore, Lina Caveleria, Frances Alda, Percy Grainger and Charles Wakefield Cadman. He was Co-con- ductor with Walter Damrosch in New York. Upon completion of his various foreign service assign- ments he was assigned at Ft. MacArthur where he served with Lt. Charles A. Schmitt who was Recruit Instructor. While there, in his spare time, Mr. Resta founded the San Pedro Symphony and later the famous Long Beach Sym- phony Orchestra which he conducted. Mr. Resta joined the Faculty at Saint Catherine's in 1941 and has been the in- spiration of our bands-teaching young cadets who did not know one instrument from another upon entry to the Band Section. We of Saint Catherine's Staff, Faculty and Cadet Corps wish him and his wife, Margaret, the best of years, and ex- tend our sincere thanks for his dedication to our Cadets. 2 o,'-JF9'A-4061
