Since that day in 1889 its aim has been to respond to the distinctive religious, mental, physical and moral needs of the elementary school boy. The administration, staff and faculty are engaged in the challenging venture of helping each cadet grow toward Christian manhood. Together they strive to develop the boy's alert and inquiring mind by an integrated and well-balanced program which affords spiritual, academic, and military opportunities for character development. The schoolis curriculum provides sound training in the basic skills and is further designed to meet the demands generated by current advances in all fields so that the cadet can lay a groundwork for any vocation or career. Although Saint Catherine's had been primarily a boarding school, in 1925 it acquired the status of a private military academy, and in 1945 began accepting a limited number of day students. The purpose of the military program is to teach obedience, order, promptness and thoroughness in the performance of assigned tasks, and to develop self-reliance, initiative, and cooperation with others. A merit system helps to motivate the cadets, endeavors to strive for growth and proficiency in the various facets of his training. Citation cords, medals, ribbons, and promotions are all well-earned honors shared not only by the cadet himself but with his family and his company as well. The objective of the school is to graduate a cadet who possesses not only loyalty and honor, but also those noble traits which delineate a true Christian gentleman. The Dominican Sisters conduct the school and are assisted by a competent lay staff under the direction of Sister Patricia Marie, O.P., Administrator, and the supervision of Major Charles A. Schmitt, Commandant The students of Orange County's oldest Catholic school are proud of the Christian heritage and Domini- can tradition exemplified at Saint Catherine's. Their education has created in them an awareness not only of their own potentialities but also of the value and uniqueness of each person they encounter in their daily living. Each cadet, therefore, is encouraged to think, to lead, and always strive to do his best. At Saint Catherine's he becomes acquainted with his duties and responsibilities as a citizen of this world for he knows he has an eternal destiny and that this life is given to help him achieve it. ,- J- ,ery f f ,,,,,, ,,.., - Ef?2!'l22?Ei'l??1?42'-?2f'e '
