C1868-19535 P' 4 gin emnrmm A sixty-year-old academy Bowed to a fearless woman's insight To crystallize into Gothic majesty For our hoys. In the fall of '24 they came - The tread of manly footsteps - To merge with ladies' steps Down St. Catherine's halls. On through the spirals of time Youth have come and gone, Forged in the fire of truth, To jill life's destiny. Thus the thought of a woman Lives on. We who walk the earth Set boundaries 'round the memory of classes, teachers, friends, 'Round the triumph of fulfillment IVhere ideals of truth and lozfe have lingered deep, Where, across the hours, This thoughtful moving current Has ruu in simple silence and measured paceg Tomorrow a day shall rise A 'fl For you to tread the earth. In history, sociology, and economics classes, citizens of tomorrow learn Mapping to participate in civic affairs, become interested in the welfare of others, and get a picture of our position in the family of nations. ' ' ' LEARNING TO LIVE with another language forms f' the basis of true eace b encouravin and understanding N X y P Y C s Q if fi of the hopes and fears, the likes and dislikes, as well as the background of our fellowman. In this way classical , ' 'js up ' fand modern languages prove not only cultural but also ffl! Qpractical. In a typical math program St. Catherinites tackle equations, theorems, radi- cals, and logarithms to find that they are not such prob- lems after all. IN THE TEST tube, through a microscope, or with a dissecting blade a new and fascinating world reveals itself in the science laboratories. Not infrequently a graduates world of tomorrow begins here where man discovers the thought of God. AN ARMY OF YOUTH enkindled with the fire of divine love for a better world! With this challenge Father McCormick, spiritual director, propelled the '52-'55 Sodalists into action. The mark fixed, Sodality officers and twelve dynamic forces, the committees, set out to ignite the world. Under the guidance of competent advisers and committee chairmen, activities swirled. Bands of Eucharistic Knights and Handmaids furthered devotion to the Blessed Sacrament. In a two day drive, over one thousand students pressed the recruiting booths to enlist in the Blue Army of Our Lady's Committee. Concerted action took over early in the mission committees. Roller skates clicked, and the Home Mis- sion Committee's skating party netted funds for a needy mission in the South. Nickels, pennies, and dimes rolled in during the annual Lenten drive for foreign missions. In a Christmas basket campaign sponsored by Local 35, Christian charity glowed for needy families. Books precede a change in the thought pattern of the world. That our future heritage might remain Christian, both the Catholic Truth and Discussion Com- mittees worked hard to shape their convictions and stock the minds of fellow Sodalists with Christian 60 thought. Armed with these convictions, the Catholic Action group, through a series of constructive criticisms, hoped to raise the standard of the nation's thought re- vealed on its screens and over its radios. To accommodate interested Sodalists, new commit- tees were formed. Among these, the V-C Committee, through playlets, panels, and a Vocation Day project, offered students opportunities to study and examine the three walks of life. The Christian Social Living Com- mittee organized to show students how to apply Catholic principles to daily living. In order to make new friends and keep the old, the Personality Develop- ment and Leadership Committees combined efforts to make teen-agers courtesy conscious. In addition to the committee activities, the Sodality officers with the assistance of Sister Anaclete, moderator, planned and organized the monthly assemblies. Other Sodality projects highlighted the year. There were the annual retreat, the WCAC, and the Lourdes Ball. Sodalists continued to receive the S0daliTimeJ each month. They contributed to the nation wide spiritual bouquet for the Holy Father. The erection of the long- proposed Christmas crib in downtown Racine became a reality. To close the year's program fittingly, all gathered to crown their Mother Mary Queen of May. .45 .wr 11 ,Mf?f, , 0 5 gil-Q an my M :Elle 0 1 QIQ QQ X f -ffm, , it 3 w, xl X M ., in JSTNUV 55 rw ' 7 X1 it ,A .L new 5 R 35 f , 'V' X - - - f any K as f hfi V In T X, '-f V f Y Y 451995 mfg 5 ft mix as Lf f 3 F4 0 .. .,,-. . ,J . The Angel gridders had an over-all mark of seven wins and two losses with non-conference triumphs over Edgewood of Madison and Green Bay Catholic Central. STARTING THE SEASON WITH A BANG the varsity eleven breezed through their first two games with a 19-13 victory over Edge- wood at Madison and a conference win, 19-17, over Notre Dame. THEN CAME THE FIRST FATE for St. Catherine's when they tangled with a powerful Marquette team and put the first black mark on their 152 season record with a 12-7 loss. ROMPING OVER THEIR NEXT TWO OPPONENTS Messmer and St. Johns, by margins of 41-O and 40-O respectively, the Black and White started on a five-game winning streak, which was broken only in the final tilt of the conference season with a 7-6 defeat by Pius XI in a rugged game. INCLUDED IN THIS WINNING STREAK were triumphs over Waukesha, Don Bosco, and Green Bay. In the homecoming tilt with Don Bosco, Dick Mutchler rocketed the Angels to a 19-6 victory as he crossed the goal line three times. DICK MILKIE WAS ELECTED honorary captain for the '52 Angel gridders and represented them at the Goodfellers annual banquet.
