DEBA TING AND PUBLIC SPEAKING Kathleen Healy and Kathleen O'Connel1 prepare for Cherry Blossom Tournament held in Washington, D, C. - if. - f if 17 n L The debating and public speaking clubs prepare students for the challenges of our complex world by teaching their members the methods of organization and decisive thinking. The Sister Saint Ignatius Forensic Society, under the direction of Sister Loretto Joseph, competes in the Narragansett Debate League and National Catholic Forensic League. Several teams were sent to each ofthe Invitational Tour- naments at Middletown High School, the University of Rhode Island, Georgetown University, and Rhode island College. Academy students find satisfaction and a sense of achievement in the honors and trophies bestowed on them in numerous tournaments. XJ New Kathleen O'Connell and De La Salle Academy students rank high in National Catholic Forensic League speech contest. Kathleen won first place in girls extemporaneous speaking in the Diocese of Providence.
