It All Began When . . . . . . we were eager, little Freshmen lfive classes strongj with sandwich wrappers enough to fill the new refuse shoot after one noon hour. Sister' Mary David tlooking forward to her first year at St. Brendan'sj first met us when Jessie led the Conga line across the geography of the intri- cate fourth floor. Then came the Freshmen Dance-armed with baby dolls and stocking caps, we howled as Anita Taormina told us some kind gentleman offered her and her 'fbaby a seat in the bus. With Mary Oliva, Mary Driscoll, Betty Delaney and Cen Tortorello taking the reigns among the Freshmen presidents we settled down to comparative sanity and got into the swing of St. Brendan tradition. Angie Aiello in the g'Welcome Homew assembly was another side-splitting light spot. Then, en masse, the whole crowd of us surged over to Regis to view A Midsummer Nightls Dream? Along with the new cafeteria, Ellen Donoghue and her lunch-room quartet helped brighten the too short lunch period. Their favorite rendition was uOnward Christian Soldiersi' for some reason or other. lngenious, as we were, we named the English class elephant-Sam. And then it was summer time already. September, 1945, and with it came Geometry and major Art. Try as we would to hide them, Miss McGlue always found the tacks we hid on the radiator. Fame called and Dotty Carpenter, Marie Wilson, Rosemarie Rotondi, Grace Celenza, Pat Azzoli, Anne Dunphy, Barbara Cole, Peggy Doheny made the Clee Club. The new bell practically pealed when Peg Chandler, Joan Murtha, Beth O'Brien, Peg O,Brien, Ellen Donoghue, Pat Keogh and Jeanette Horky augmented the Varsity. Agnes Sims and Mar Judge took up fiddling in the orchestra. Also active were the literary lights and Peggy Casey, Ann Dougherty, Ro Rotondi, Connie Peet, Alice McGuinness, Beth O'Brien and Pat Azzoli completed the Stella Staff. Of course, we canit forget the C.A. Unit and the Christmas visits to the hospitals and particularly the time Amelia Giammarino brought the pipes and tooth paste to the kids by mistake, while the paper dolls and toy drums went to the Old Men's home. Along came little Audrey Powers to step up with the colleens for the Irish Assembly. Betty Colquhoun, Alice McCuinness, Doris Harvey and Kay Murray became uthev Cheer Leaders of the team. The inimitable Bessie and Tessie spark-plugged the Dancing Club along with Jo-Ann Lombardi. At the same time, Eileen Mahr was testing Coldfinkis motzahs on the fourth floor. Miss Anderson gave up trying to get some life out of us, when Ann Dougherty, frisking about, broke her arm. But then summer was here again. September, 1946. At this point we picked our own subjects. While ,loan McLaughlin was busy writing ditties about commercial life, Ann Sferrazza and Mildred Andriola 'Ldood itv with high nineties on the aca- demic side. Some of us charged into the new Physics Lab for Atom's Alleyj as we preferred to call it, while others staggered out of the Chem Lab. 60 mguganarj of dGf6fd ff? Meanwhile, our Commercial classmates were receiving a letter of commendation from Albany because of the excellence of their B.A. Regents. Marie Cross easily got the job of typing up the Parish Bulletin, while we went on to uparlez-vousf, Emerging unscathed after a series of French records on The Handkerchief of my Father and 'Tai une grande maison,', we willingly let sleeping Ciceros lie and enjoyed the summer vacation. September, 194-7, and with it a new regime-WE were seniors. Along with Intermediate Algebra and Fourth Year Latin came Senior rings and hats and the inevitable Senior Strut. The Senior Council was formed and Louise ladarola, treasurer, was running' around getting the last returns for the Farewell Dance which was a decided success. Then came the Christmas Play with Cassie Swift displaying the latest thing in Shep- herd's wear. Thanks to Sister Stanislaus, it was a terrific success in Senior Circles. Then 4-B and the sole use of the Senior Stairs! Bobby Nelson became President of the C.A. Unit, Dotty Carpenter, President of the Glee Club, Peg O,Brien, Captain of the Varsity and Mary Judge, Vice President of the Orchestra. The tears that were shed in 201 were many, because there wasn't room for them on the Senior Floor. They had a special sign printed by Catherine King and hung on the door. It read 4-Bf, Gen Tortorello, when not writing Fashion News with Dotty O'Brien, was busy as Secretary of the Senior Council. Then there were our Fresh- men-sisters and the circus of a Freshmen Dance. Pat Keating came up with a wonderful Fashion Show. Elizabeth Barone gave the music and Catherine Chevallay, Bernadette Castonova, Betty Kenny, Agnes Coyle, and Gloriette Riviera were among the models. The term went fast but Betty Maguire, Virginia Cullen and Betty Phelan managed to come late the usual number of times and Marcie Neefeldt came up with the usual number of pranks. The last few dances . . . our Farewell Dance and then the Prom . . . Four years have sped by very quickly but not without leaving indelibly printed in our hearts, memories of great friends, won- derful times and a swell school! 61
